Question about 2005 Honda Activa

1985 Honda Aero 80 is running extremely rich - I believe the choke is not turning off. I have cleaned the carburetor, needle and seat seem to be fine and it is still flooding and dying. Suggestions?

Sounds like a dead bystarter. look up "aero 80 choke." I believe the 85 was electric bystarter equipped. 83-84 were vaccuum operated. Both ****. It can be cleaned, replaced, or bypassed. Make sure you have no vaccuum leaks first.

NSR timing

The Honda NSR125 doesn't have two cylinders - it has only one cylinder. If you have an NSR125 and it sounds like that, then you're "four-stroking" in the middle of the RPM range. "Four-stroking" (not firing exactly 50% of the time) is caused by too rich a mixture, which tells me that either your air intake has a problem or your carburetor wants more attention. If you only cleaned it by pouring carburetor & choke cleaner into the fuel tank, that's probably not enough - you'll probably need to disassemble the entire carburetor and run carburetor cleaner spray through every port & jet or put it in a dip tank until it's dead clean inside.

Since it seems to clear up at higher RPMs, it's probably not your intake - that's just get worse & worse at higher RPMs. I've gotta' say I believe your carburetor's still not clean inside.

Since it's running rich below 4KRPM, it should hurt anything except your pride & your bike's performance. It should NOT seize the engine - that'd happen if your fuel mix was too LEAN, but yours is too RICH.

Don't mess with the governor, just pull the bowl and unscrew the emulsion tube and clean the small holes, and also check the cap screw at the bottom of the bowl their could be a small hole that also needs to be cleaned. GOOD LUCK...

I ran my newly purchased 2004 FatBoy last Saturday, and it was wonderful.....tuned so sweetly. But now, today, the second time I've had it out, it was running very rich, to the point it was difficult...

Your bike is not equipped with a "choke" per se. It is equipped with an "enricher" circuit. Although both systems are meant to provide a rich mixture with which to start a cold engine, they do this it completely different fashions. If you were to ride the bike with a "choke" partially on, it would run very rich. But, once you crack the throttle plate open on an "enricher" equipped carburetor, the enricher is rendered inoperative. An enricher only works when the throttle is fully closed.

If you're running rich and fuel is splattering down the right side of the bike, you've got other problems in the carb. I would suspect that your needle and seat is not sealing like it should for one reason or the other. If the bike sat up for a while, it could have some residue on the needle and seat left from the gasoline evaporating or something. I'd go purchase a can of carb and injector cleaner and pour some in the fuel tank. Do not allow any of this to get on your paint. Try that for a tank full if you can. If that doesn't work, the carb needs to be taken off, stripped down, and thoroughly cleaned inside. Maybe install a new needle valve. The seat is not replaceable in the original carburetor.

Good Luck
Steve

Replaced head gasket bike runs on tickover smokes a lot and seems to b burning the engine oil and will not rev

Try a thorough carburetor cleaning. If the carburetors are not set correctly, are dirty, and feeding an overly rich fuel mixture (malfunctioning choke, or stuck open float needles) this can cause smoking and poor acceleration. If oil and anti freeze got into the exhaust during the rebuild that could also be a source of some of the smoke . Only a long drive will take care of that.

Hi I recently bought a Kawasaki kdx 80.I've been riding it for about a week and has been fine, but a few days ago I filled the tank with premix 35:1 I think and not saying that's what did it but since then...

Black dry deposits are indicitive of a very rich mixture. On your two stroke, rich is a asset but you can go too rich. It sounds like for some reason you're getting too much fuel.

I think I ran into something like this before on a Kawasaki 80. Check the screws that holds the choke plate inside the carb. They will come loose and allow the choke to close on you while riding the bike. If the screw comes out, it will go into the engine and cause serious damage. If the screws are loose, them out one at a time and put a drop of Loctite 271 (red) on them and reinstall them.

Check the float and the needle and seat to make sure that you don't have any trash in the needle and seat. Also check your tank vent. If the tank builds up vacuum, you could be running out of fuel. Sounds funny that you can be running rich but run out of fuel. The problem is that you run out of fuel so quickly that the carbon from the rich mixture doesn't have time to burn off.

Good Luck
Steve

1985 dodge ramcharger, carburetor issues

Sounds like a problem I had with my '85 Dodge D150 Ram Prospector. In my case, the automatic choke was broken and it was starved for air during acceleration because the choke was always closed. It ran fine at idle or very slow acceleration. I wired the choke open and it runs much better, although it is much more difficult to start as the fuel mix is lean due to the extra air. Once it gets warmed up, though, it runs fine. I hear that the barrel carb on mine often has problems.
