Brake caliper is siezed from lack of use, will need caliper rebuild kit, but if you have to just wheel it around to tap the caliper with a hammer lightly it will loosen it up so it can be moved

Left hand front breaks keep locking on, an not releasing .stopping the front wheel from turning

check that the calliper body slides freely on the locating pins
check that the piston returns and is not jammed in the calliper
I suspect that the body is not sliding freely and the outer disc pad is ******* the rotor

Front breaks lock up,while driving, park for a few minutes, breaks are fine

Could be that the callipers are jamming or the wheel is running tight. Check for wheel spin with the front wheels off the ground, they should spin with minimum effort. Could also be something wrong with the master cylinder. It may not be releasing properly and slowly building pressure to lock the brakes. After sitting for a while, it returns to normal position and releases the brakes. Mt Ford had a dud wheel bearing which would intermittently start to seize. When this happened, the anti lock braking system thought that the wheel was about to lock and would throw the brakes on and off without warning... Check your wheel bearings too.

Problems with breaks

The caliper is bolted on by sliding pins that allow the caliper to adjust itself. I would assume the sliding pins are stuck. The bolts slide inside the carrier that holds the calipers.

What are the steps for replacing the front brake rotors on my 2004 Montana?

General:Jack the car firmly.remove the wheel.Remove front brake calliper.Note:u may have to manually pull in the brake piston by pressing it with a flat screwdrive as the disc may be worn and wont loose the pads.Note:calliper screws may have rubber/plastic caps and be hidden, inspect carefully. Also u may screw them again with Lock-it glue, they are subject to become loose.Unscrew the disc lock screw (on the face)release the disc (may have to tap it ,do not hit hard, may brake it...even if it is waste is not recomandabile, sharp edges are dangerous.)Replace the disc, tighten the lock screw (add lock-it) .Ceck calliper dust proof rubber(good practice).Mount the calliper (add lock-it on the screws)Tight firmly (the book have some nm torques for that, but dought u have a dino-key,so tight them pretty hard).Ceck all twice, brakes are no joke.Mount the wheel.VERY IMPORTANT:Before anything else pump the brakes again, till it get hard (make it twice),u dont wont to forgot the piston sinked and have the surprise of no brake when releasing the car.Wornig:Do not pump the brakes when calliper is out,u may pop the piston, loose the brake oil, have to refill bleed wich is kinda hush.Cheers.

I have a polaris 500 atv after sitting for a couple of days the left front wheel acts like it is locked up. I can back up a few times and then it releases. I cant tell if it is the break or the hub

As it is a atv i expect the brake is binding try removing the brake calliper and checking the brake piston for rust or dirt, gently clean with brass brush dont damage the rubber seal though . Allso try removing the calliper before leaving atv if it sticks with calliper removed may be dodgy bearing in hub.

I changed out the rotor on the drivers side rear and breake pads on all tires 2001 chevy 1500,when i tried to set the breaks the rotors got hot quickly the rear caliers on both locked up and wont release

Check the hose(s) from the calliper to the tubing.
Many times they will fail internally (no leak) and act as an accumulator - keeping pressur in the line.
If you can open the bleeder, and the calliper cylinders retract, chances are good the hose has failed.
It is always recommended to replace the hoses all at once.

Changing the front brake pads.

first off, you need to buy the break pads, break caliper spreader, and you need to know if the bolts have a allen wrench head or a torques head, you can find that out by turning your wheel all the way to the left after you remove the front left tire, take a small hand mirror and look on the back side of the calliper, once you know what it is, you need the socket or wrench that fits it, remove the bolts, then the calliper will pull off by wiggleing it off, then remove the outside pad, take the break calliper spreader and place it the way the break pad sat and screw it pushing the calliper cylinder back as far as possible, then take the calliper spreader off and remove the other pad, install the new pads into the break calliper and replace the calliper back onto the router, (the round disc the calliper was on) line up the holes on the calliper and replace the bolts.......once you have put the calliper back on you must pump the peddle untill they are hard again, about 3-6 times or untill you cant go to the floor anymore. once they are solid again, replace your tire and you should be good to go.....................hope this helps.
