With the light flashing ,codes are stored in the transmission control module . Have the codes check an this will tell you whats wrong . Probably a sensor or shift solenoid or line pressure solenoid .

My 2000 ford expedition XLT 4.2 L V8 overdrive lite is flashing as well took it in they said I need a new transmission so I are they can't put in a new overdrive thing my trucks rpm go high ones I'm over 45 it starts flashing and rpm go up but no power almost like it puts itself in neutral anyway I have to put in in drive 2 then switch back to drive to have power again as long as I stay under 42 miles an hour it drives fine over that speed overdrive light flashes and rpm are wakey lol I don't know anyone have a idea I don't want to put in a new transmission please help it's the only car my family has thank you

ok ! first things first! on the drivers side of the trans !theres a neutral saftey switch! to locate it look for the shifter cable! i rite ther disconnect it and look for corrosion ! green **** in the plug! if so replace pigtail thats wut its called ! next go to the other side of trans and lok for the other connector ! on the other side of trans ! check for the same! the connectore allways rot away!clean and lube connectors! if this helps leave comment if u need help call me !9082795716! ill walk u through it! my nme is tony

You need to have it scanned for codes. The flashing overdrive light means it has trouble codes that pertain to the transmission.

check for codes in trans thats what the light flashing means

This blinking light indicates a problem. You will have to have it scanned for trouble codes to find out
what it is.

need to check the wiring in the column to the od button it rubs the metal shorting it out in turn causing the blink with no mechanical problems

The overdrive light blinking indicates a code has been stored in you computers transmission control module, the cost will depend on the problem, some have had problems with the torque convertor clutch slipping, could be more major, get the code pulled out and I can provide you with a more complete answer. -Jared
