Engine dies when i give it gas

These models are typically very lean and respond well to a little richer slowspeed jet. However if the bike has sat up for longer than 3 months try draining the carb and tank a refilling with fresh gas. If this dosent work a proper carb cleaning may be in order. Also ckeck for an air leak at the intake manifold by spraying this area with carb cleaner while the bike is idling steady. If the engine rpm changes you have located a leak. repair as necessary.

I have a Yamaha ttr 125 lev. I just bought a new carb for it and it runs great but it will not idle. I let it warm up for about ten minutes and then rode it for another thirty minutes and it still will not...

The idle screw is just that, the idle screw, if the low speed jet is not delivering fuel, it won't run. You should have preset the jets before installing the carb. There should be 2 or 3 jets inside, they have to be set before installing, the low speed jet is turned in all the way, then backed out 1 1/2 turns, this should be a good enough flow for all purpose, if you need more, you will have to reset the thing. Some jets are not adj. They get screwed in all the way and run on their opening dim. Which is tiny. If it is clogged in any way, you will have problems. If you have the old carb handy, you can operate on it and see what is what. Before you tear into the new one. One more thing to check is the air filter and the air flow itself, if the filter is clean, cover the intake with a piece of paper just to see if anything changes. You might have upset the flow with a different carb and there is no computer telling it what to do. Check it out, Hope this helps.

2007 ttr 125 wont start unless hand is over the back of carb. also wont idle.At mid and high range it runs fine. There are no air leaks and no adjustment screw for the air/idle just a factory plug.

Time for carb cleaning, blow the jets with compressed air and check the fuel level in the float chamber, adjust if necessary.
Tht factory plug is where the air-mixture screw is and tht plug has been kept there for non tampering!
That screw is factory set.
Basically its the primary jet which is a problem in your bike's carb, but all in all might as well blow both of them.
Hope this helps!

Tt-r 125 e carburetor adjustment My son tried to clean the carburetor and set all the jets and screws tight. What do I set which jet at ?

The air screw and throttle screw are the only settings on the carb. Bear in mind they only screw in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward. This is the factory setting. Put the rest of the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.

If the screw adjusters were screwed in tight they will likely need to be replaced. The end of the screws will have a depression ring and that little ring can screw up the carb.

Could you take a moment and rate my answer? Thanks!

Carb

Hi I am vortash it may be you have a blocked idler jet you will find this is the jet in the bowl area .. just pass a thin strand of wire through it and clean the bowl out .. if that don't cure it check the carb manifold gasket it may be letting air in .. it may be that your cable is badly adjusted most bike carbs have the adjuster on the acelarator cable as it eneters the carb ..hope this helps regards Vortash

Hi, Kirkbb1 and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel cap or fuel tank is not venting properly.

4. Vacuum line from the petcock to intake manifold cracked.
5. Float needle and seat sticking.
6. Float level too low.
7. Carburetor bowl vent line clogged/blocked/pinched.
8. Idle adjusting screw set too low.
9. Air/fuel mixture screw set too lean.
10. Idle port, transfer ports, slow air jet clogged.
11. Slow fuel jet clogged.
12. Faulty fuel pump.

Yamaha TTR 125 L won't idle

this is very tipical. when bikes are stored the fuel varishes up the jets & needles. soak the carb. moving it back and forth in the soak solution. then blow every jet and orfice with a controlled air source. note: any speck of rust or dirt can plug these jets. pay attention to detail and do every thing twice. then install the carb and adjust it to your riding style. later Spike
