If it is a 2 stroke the problem may be in the crankshaft seals not sealing on the shaft resulting in low compression pressures

Dan, this sounds like your battery may be the culprit. The starter drains any power the battery has left. Bump starting does not require power from the battery, DO NOT try to jump it from a car!

I have a 2006 Kawasaki Bayou 250 it is always fowling spark

Take the carb back off and adjust the float in bowl to spec.If you don't have spec just adjust till fuel stops overfowing an go with that.Yeah, it might take a few times.

KLX 250 won't fire - new battery

-check the fuse right hand side below the fuel tank and seat, see if it is blown.
- Check to see if plug has spark, replace if necessary .
- Did you run the bike with a low battery before replacing it? could be that your stator is shot.
-Is bike trying to start but won't?
