New battery, but the bike does not crank when start button is pushed - what could be wrong? The bike still has the original starter motor.

SOURCE: New bike 2008 k1200 gt starting problem when hot

if the clutch burned out it must have been slipping causing lots of heat inside were the starter is, all this extra heat wont do the starter any good at all, if its still under warrantee get it back as its clearly not right,, not at all like bmw?

SOURCE: 1985 R80 40,000 miles. Battery has difficulty

If battery and starter are as good as you say try checking the condition of the earth leads from battery to frame and any earths from engine/starter motor to frame. A corroded terminal could be the problem. Also check pos wire from battery to starter and any relay in system.

1986 honda shadow vt1100. Whenever I hook up the battery the starter starts to crank, and continues to crank until battery is disconnected or dies.

solenoid or relay stuck, if water has managed to get in over the 2 years or its corroded up the connections will connect, when the power went in the first time it moved but is unable to go back into the original off position.

I got a tuff one 1988 Honda Shadow vt1100c is tosting starter relays got to get a new one again. This will be #4.

Does this bike need a lot to get it started? I mean using the starter button for extended times can cause problems like you have had , do you find yourself cranking over the motor and the bike will start but only after you have been persistently pushing the starter button until eventually it starts ? If this is the case then starters fail due to been run and over heated 80% of the time .

XV1100 Starter does not engage when trinig to start engin

sorry didn't actually see the post before my first comment, if it is only when the bike is warm or hot but not over heated I would suspect the same thing, faulty starter. "replace or rebuild"

As i was hitting the start button on my 06 gsxr 750 my finger slipped only letting it just barely engage and then my bike cut out guages go in and out here and there and when i hit the starter it just has...

Sounds like the starter motor has engaged and then stuck out. Either take the starter motor off to make sure it is fine and then reassemble. Or if your feeling brave, I'd try putting it in gear and then push the bike forward/backwards to see if the starter motor returns to it's original position. Then retry to start it with the electric start switch.

Good luck

1996 plymoth breeze.. It wont start tried everything. It has a new battery, starter and starter relay.. Had alternator test it in mint conditon.. So wat wrong with it?

so is it cranking or not cranking if its not cranking the problem could be the ignition switch ,the electrical contacts inside it have burnt out,If so then fit a push button to operate the starter motor

Honda Deauville will not start.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The click is significant. It indicates that the starting relay is engaging but for some reason, the starter motor is not cranking. This could either be a faulty starter relay (particularly the contacts) or a faulty starter motor (specifically, the carbon brushes). To determine which:
  • with the side covers off, expose the starter relay particularly the 2 large terminals;
  • have somebody start the bike normally using the key and button start switch;
  • determine if indeed the clicking is coming from the starter relay;
  • while the start button is still pressed, jump the 2 big terminals;
  • if the engine cranks, then the internal contacts of the starter relay are corroded or burned;
  • if the engine will not crank, then the starter motor is faulty or it can not turn the engine..
A few additional ideas:
  • externally charge the battery;
  • drain the tank and carbs of stale fuel;
  • refill with fresh fuel;
  • remove the plugs, center stand the bike, engage 1st gear, rotate rear wheel to exercise engine.
  • Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

My bike wont start up, fuzes are good, oil good, new battery. Bike wont turn over to star.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, determine if there is a clicking sound when the START button is pressed. The click is significant. If there is, this indicates that the starting relay is engaging but for some reason, the starter motor is not cranking. This could either indicate a faulty starter relay (particularly the contacts) or a faulty starter motor (specifically, the carbon brushes). To determine which:
  • with the side covers off, expose the starter relay particularly the 2 large terminals;
  • have somebody start the bike normally using the key and button start switch;
  • determine if indeed the clicking is coming from the starter relay;
  • while the start button is still pressed, jump the 2 big terminals;
  • if the engine cranks, then the internal contacts of the starter relay are corroded or burned;
  • if the engine will not crank, then the starter motor is faulty.
If there is no click, you may want to check the alarm/security/immobilizer if your bike is so equipped. others to check would be side stand switch, clutch switch and neutral light indicator.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
