Question about Yamaha XJ 700 X Maxim Motorcycles

1 Answer

My Yamaha XJ700X spews out white smoke when first starting. I just had the carbs done so I'm not sure what the reason is. Someone has told me that I might want to put in a little mystery oil into the gas tank. I want another opinion about that. What do you think?

There are three types of smoke that will exhust from your gasoline engine: White smoke, actually is steam from condensation of water within the muffler and exhust system. Number two is Black smoke, this is from unburned fuel. The engine is running far richer that it needs to be. Number three is blue smoke. This is usually associated with oil comsumption. I hope this helps.
----------
The white smoke deetermines that you probably have a leaky head gasket then while going up hill the moter and trans are under heavy load. the motor cant handle the heavy load because most of your compression is being lost threw the broken or cracked head gasket.if your oil looks like choclate milk you have problems. itmeans your coolant is going into your motor. also check to see if your coolant is foamy. do this by 1st removing your radiator cap then starting your bike.(careful not to get burned after warm up) if the antifreeze is foamy your oil is going into your coolant.
the head gasket needs to be checked first then replaced by confirming .

thanks.please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.

White smoke on start up of a cold engine is water vapour created by cold moist air and hot combustion ( steam). Mostly all cars will emit a whit wispy smoke until temperatures are elevated enough for the cat converter to turn it in something you cannot see. To be sure have a compression test done to check for gasket and have a coolant system pressure test done to check for coolant leaks

Blue smoke is oil burning, white steam/smoke is coolant burning, it will be a sweet smell.
You have a choice, repair the head gasket (if there is coolant in the oil, the bottom end needs rebuilt also) which is around,$300-$1000 depends if a garage or you do it, the problem with doing a head gasket is there is no garantee, if you replace the engine with a used engine you have a 90 day/ 1 year warantee, your choice. about the same cost.

Car spews a lot of white smoke i assume its steam from coolant or antifreeze from a cracked head gasket, was told it needed spark wires and plugs and brakes,

no you cannot judge on that before checking what the problem is
have you checked what how the is oil level in because when the smoke is white that means it is oil
if it is black that is gaz .accordingly you have an oil leak from valves where the upstroke forces oil into combustion chamber where it is burned and causes white smoking

Briggs & Stratton Vertical OHV Engine 18 hp blowing white smoke engine run great but a lot of smoke and also have oil being spit out of the black hose that come from engine to the carb.

Check your oil.

If it is overfilled, milky, or smells like gas. Your going to need to change that ASAP. It sounds like the float has stuck in the past or is still sticking, and it has flooded the crankcase with gas, which has mixed with the oil. And because it is overfilled it comes through the breather hose into the carb. This also explains the smoke most probably because the oil is spewing in the carb through the breather and being burned.

I have a Yamaha XJ700X Maxim It will start fine and idle briefly but when I try to give it gas with the throttle it dies. I have cleaned carbs and resynced them but still no luck. Could this be a airflow...

You may have a air leak around the carbs either where they connect to the head or the air cleaner if it will run with the choke on you have a leak and it is trying to **** air

While kick starting my bullet 350 cc spews out lot

Spews smoke and then stops? Worn valve guides or worn valve guide seals. Quick way to tell: take it for a ride with someone on another bike / car behind you. Use engine braking. Puff of smoke? Probably seals.
Bright side: These engines are dead easy to work on.

Lawnmower is spewing white smoke

white smoke means that there is water in the fuel air mixture during combustion. a bluish white smoke means oil is being burned during combustion. take another look and make sure which one it is. since all mowers ive seen are air cooled the only way water can be getting in the fuel air mixture is through the gas cap. check your gas tank and gas can for water. may be best to empty both and start over with fresh fuel

Check your oil, you may have a blown head gasket. Check the oil too see if it has antifreeze in it
