Question about 2004 Yamaha V Star Classic

1 Answer

I have a 2005 Honda VTX 1300 that I can't get the handlebars to tighten. The risers are completely flat when pulled tight and the bars still twist. Is there a way to fix the problem?

The top pieces of the risers can be filed or sanded down to create a gap between the top & bottom piece to increase the clamping pressure, my guess is you have aftermarket handlebars which are smaller in diameter than the stock ones.

How many ft. lbs to tighten handle bar bolts on the risers of 2004 FHLRCI ?

I've never seen a specific torque value listed for a riser bolt, neither the large bolt on the bottom or the smaller bolts at the top. Simply tighten them to within reason, not too loose but don't strip the threads either. The large lower bolt or nut should be quite tight. The smaller 3/8" bolts at the top should be just tight enough to prevent the handlebars from slipping. I'd use Loctite 242 medium blue on all the bolts.

Good Luck

Handlebar wobbles when grips are released, it does not go straight, and there's a rattle whem going through bumps, at all speeds

You probably need to add air pressure to your front tire and the steering head bearings need to be tightened.

Shaking in handlebars

Your tire is out of balance, your steering head bearings are not tight, and you are running too low of a pressure in your front tire.

How to adjust shifter on honda fury I need to lower the pedal

The shifter levers are on a splined shaft that comes out of the engine. Take the bolt out of the shifter lever and pull it off the shaft and move it to where you want it and reinstall. Make sure the bolt is tight.

07 vtx 1300 leaking gas when bike is started

You need to pull the gas tank off and find out where it is leaking. I would say it is probaby something simple like a loose clamp on a fuel line.

Can I install 4" kickback riser under the handlebar

Just make sure the cables are not binding or too short.
Replacing the risers are pretty straight forward.
Remove the four hold down bolts then remove the stock risers. Towel will help here to prevent handle bars from scratching the tank. Helps to have the front wheel straight before starting this process. Install the new risers using the hardware supplied. Be sure to check clutch and throttle for binding BEFORE riding.
If they bind and prevent easy operation you may have to purchase extension cables. Be sure to torque the 4 bolts that hold down the handle bars properly. After a few trips check and tighten again to the proper torque settings. Installed the Baron kick back risers on my 1100 and it took a few trips to get use too.
After that wouldn't take anything for them! Sitting higher and not all slumped over. Nice looking too!

Good luck!
Hope this Helps!

hi dennis. firstly there ain't no extra inside the headlight. it's very tight in there. remove the light using small phillips screws on either side. (dang what a mess)
you can slip off your old handlebar controls no problem, loosen them up before removing the riser clamps, then you can easily slip them off as you can move the bars to do so. slip controls on new bars and try mounting, if wires are too tight you will have to find them in the headlight and extend them.
