Question about 1990 Honda GL 1500 SE Gold Wing
Push starter and it will start. Then try starting again and lights come and it acts normal. Has new sealed battery - tester showed 12.4 volts at 2500+ rpms. Removed battery and it showed 11.5 volts. Prevously checked main and fuses - all fine. 39,000 miles anxious to get on the road this summer, but am stumped.
Any help would be appreciated.
It sounds like there may be an electrical leak, If the voltage goes too low, the computer either shuts down or it can go stupid where certain things won`t operate. Try turning everything off, disconnect the positive lead from the battery and connect an ammeter between the positive terminal of the battery and the positive connector that goes to the bike. There should be very little drain from the battery, (I presume it`s got a clock and maybe a radio with presets that require power). I would say if there is more than say 10 - 50mA showing on the meter, you`ve got a leak. I`ve just been explaining about one of these bikes where it was the rectifiers that were leaking. I`m only guessing so I hope this helps. Ian
