Question about 2005 Honda CRF 450 X
Most likely cause is a bent shift fork but it could be worn dogs on the gears. If the fork is bent it could be forcing the slider gear against the freewheeler with too much force and not allowing the dogs to positively engage. Unfortunately only way to check is to split cases and inspect. I've disassembled a '03 cr230f motor and trans to its individual parts. Seems intimidating but with a service manual you can do it!
