Question about 2001 Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic

1 Answer

My bike started ok and ran for about 45 min before leaving me stranded. I have fuel and have changed the plugs it just doesn't want to fire up when i try to start it. I have tested everything that the clymer book says to check the plugs, igition coil, etc and i'm down to thinking its the ignitor unit which there is no way to check. Is this a common thing or should i look for something else?

A couple things to try. When it dies, remove the fuel cap and see if you hear a noise like air rushing in. The fuel cap could be clogged and not allowing air in. Also, check the fuel filter (if equipped)

You have 2 solutions : take out the spark plugs and dry them with cloth, put them back in and start the bike.
Or, leave the bike over the night and the excess fuel on spark plugs will evaporate.
If the engine is hot and you have this problem, just leave the bike for half an hour and start it.

Bike leaves me stranded after 15 mins

Check your ignition coils. Sometimes they fail with an open circuit, this can sometimes close up when the machine is cold and open again when it heats up. So. it will start when cold and fail when it warms up.

Sounds like a pilot screw is missing or your float level is too high possibly the low speed jet fell out? what else was done besides the fuel pump? whatever it is the bottom line is now its getting to much fuel.

Not sure what happened i started my 97 cbr600f3 ran it on choke for about 45 sec. it started to die,so i eased the choke off it died and havent been able to fire it up since.any suggestions

Remove plugs to see what colour they are. If sooty then too rich / clean / install.
If wet then flooded, dry refit.
If clean and dry, starving lack of fuel.

You need to get basic checks.

Is there spark?
