Make sure you clean the fuel tank, petcock, change the oil. old fuel does not work, dump the old fuel and buy the best gas you can get

Hi, ive got a 1999 g2 kawasaki zx6r been sat for 6 months+. ive changed plugs, battery, petral and pilet jets becoz to blocked, so put like for like back in. it only starts of bump and backfires realy bad...

Have a professional carb service and valves adjustment done.
Just replacing the idle jets will not clean the entire idle circuit. Mixture screws need to be removed, circuit needs to be cleaned out, re-installed,and properly adjusted for idle mixture.
If backfire continues valves need adjusting. Best to do both at same time to save on labor.

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Dirt or other foreign matter between float valve and its seat.
2. Float valve sticking.
3. Float valve and/or valve seat is worn or damaged.
4. Float misadjusted.
5. Float cracked, leaky or damaged.
6. Excessive "PUMPING" of hand throttle grip.

My harley 2004 sportster XL883 is starting, but it is backfiring alot and when i try to ride it has no power.

Is it backfiring through carb or exhaust? Has it been sitting for any period of time? We suspect carb issues. Try cleaning carb, pay special attention to the pilot jet and main jet circuits. Clean with spray carb cleaner and air, do not use wire. Make sure needle and seat are clean.

I have a 650KLR. it has been sitting for 3 years and I just got it started and the bike won't do more than idol

I would try cleaning out the carb or carbs clean out the float bowls. remove and clean the jets with solvent or carb cleaner works. Old fuel can clog up a carburetor

Buell blast is backfiring. Sat for 2 years so, cleaned fuel tank and cleaned carb. It will start now but is backfiring and will die of I try to idle. Thanks

If you did not completely disassemble the carb and remove all jets/emulsion tubes/needle valves then you did not clean the carb adequately. You could try adding either Seafoam, the Yamaha CARB-CL-EAN-ER, or Techron fuel system cleaner in an auxiliary gas tank and running the engine for a short while to ensure the mix gets into all the nooks and crannies. Let it sit for a couple hours to do the work, then drain out the float bowl, hook up the bike's gas tank and see what happens. Otherwise you need to remove, strip, clean, reassemble, and reinstall the carb.

Just had same problem. Take carbs off and clean all jets and bowl. Be carful front and rear carb have different sized jets. When you put quad back together put entire airbox together even the cover. This quad will backfire unless air box is complete. I bet you anything your carb is full of trash.
