Question about 2001 Suzuki GSX-R 1000

Clutch is sliping on third gear and the lever is engaging almost at the end i i replace the push rod and the bolt in the middle of relese arm i loose out a little and is a little better there is any other thing i can do to adjust the clutch that clutch should be new a pay to be install june last year a put in a barret the clutch plates and friction plate

Make sure you aren't using an incompatable oil, wet bath clutches need engine oil to be compatable. Most synthetics will cause slip in taller gears due to added load. Lower gears usually won't slip but 3rd and up will.

No idea what type of bike you have however, is the clutch lever pulling the cable against any tension, if no, it may just be the cable. Follow cable to engine and see if it actuates the clutch actuating arm or spindle. If lever operates okay and actuates clutch actuating arm, returning when released, your problem lies within. Warm engine and drain oil, remove clutch cover (careful of gasket and dowels) and inspect function of actuating arm against clutch thrust rod. If this is okay, your clutch basket may be undone on the spline, or the idler cog that drives the clutch basket is faulty.

Dead clutch lever

The clutch cable actuates an axle with a gear at the other end. This gear bears against step gears on the thrust rod, which pushes against clutch. Make sure there is a circlip at BOTH ends of this axle. When replacing cover, ensure axle is returned fully with handlever out, and spring is in place on actuating fulcrum of the axle. Thrust rod must bear against roller bearing of the clutch pressure plate. Make sure step gears engage at first tooth when operating handlever. The above link provides an exploded view of the entire bike in appropriate sections as an aid.

I have a wet clutch an it wont engage the cable broke and the main shaft for the clutch on the inside is loose and moves aroundand i have a 2002 but on the web site it only has 2003 so i put that


I think you mean that the clutch has a broken cable and it is constantly engaged. The clutch dis-engages from the gear box when the clutch lever is pulled in. The push lever axle (I think this is what you are calling the main shaft) sits in a hole on the side cover. The gear on the axle engages the push rod and the push rod separates the clutch plates by pushing on the pressure plate to dis -engage the transmission. If the axle shaft is loose, check the lock bolt. Also check the cover plate. Is the casing cracked or broken at the mounting point?

If you are calling the push rod "the main shaft", then some movement is normal when the clutch is engaged as would happen with a broken cable. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

I have a 2001 kawasaki zr7s. My clutch is acting up. when i pull the lever in i have no clutch. i opened the case to get to the clutch, that rod thats in the middle of the clutch acts like there should be...


the "cluch push rod" should be pushed back by the cluch springs, if there was a bearing on the end it would have broken up and be laying inside the cluch case in bits! if you have taken the cluch to bits there is a thrust washer behind the cluch body and gear box shaft if you left this washer out you wont have a cluch? best bet is get a hayns service book for your bike maybe off e-bay and you will have all the info you need to fix it plus all the photos as well of all the parts

The clutch is stuck to the floor bord and i cant shift


you may have a faulty clutch master cylinder or faulty clutch slave cylinder- leaking clutch fluid. most of the time both are replaced at the same time which should be recomended by your mechanic, the bolts to the master cylinder are very hard to get to and require the right tool.
you should be able to move car forward by selecting 1st then cranking engine till it starts, gear changes while driving are hard but not impossible. i recommend a tow truck to a local repairer.

You are probably refering to the clutch push rod. When the clutch lever is pulled in it moves the clutch arm on the outside of the caseing. This actuates the clutch push lever to push the rod into the center case. The internal end of the rod actually pushes the clutch apart to disengage the gears from the crankshaft. Without the rod there would be no clutch action.

Clutch feels fine on lever, was ok before i changed front sproket, have bled, but can not push bike when its in gear and lever pulled in,fzr1000 exup 89.


When you put the sprocket cover back on, you've not engaged the clutch push rod correctly in the clutch slave cylinder. As the cover was tightened down it's pushed the slave cylinder piston too far back.
Remove the slave cylinder only (3 x 8mm head bolts) and check it operates properly, then ensure the push rod is correctly seated in the depression in the centre of the slave cylinder plate when you bolt it back up. FJ1200's have the same clutch and I had the same problem with my FJ...

Wire clutch adjustment


dunno if that's backwards. Anyway: adjusted to just minimum sane play it barely engages with the lever fully in. If I would have to adjust the lever to any shorter position (for smaller hands) it would probably not engage fully. I understand there is an adjustment at the clutch arm down behind the gearbox. If I adjust there what will happen? I'm guessing I can wind that one in a bit then loosen the wire a bit. Will this solve the problem or will I be back at where I am now?,The arm only has limited travel, and there is a screw adjustment between the arm and the end of the clutch push-rod. Not sure what it is on the 1100s; it could be a hex headed bolt or an allen grub, but it's a bugger to get at because the swinging arm is so close. There's going to be some sort of locknut which will have to be slackened first. Make small adjustments, screwing in towards the 'box, and trying the clutch lever each time. ,,,

Clutch won't engage


Some clutches have a small rod that actually pushes the clutch activation lever on the side of the bell housing. If this rod is out of adjustment, maybe bent or broken, it will not disengage the clutch. In that case, you would not be able to put it in gear. If it has something between it and the lever that keeps it pushed in too far, the clutch cannot engage and move the car. You might want to check the other end of that rod and see if it has been displaced. Have somebody push the clutch pedal while looking under the driver's side of the car to see what moves, so you can tell what to check and correct.
