Question about 2006 kawasaki KLX 110

My transmission is stuck in gear and wont shift to neutral. i tried to adjust clutch but it didnt help

A common problem with riders that speed shift (not that i'm saying you do) is that the clutch plates wear into the basket and or the shift forks bend or break either way you may have one of these problems or even shift detent or drum may be bad

Can only select 1st neutral an 2nd gear


Hi Meihana and the usual suspects are:
1. Clutch dragging slightly.
2. Primary chaincase overfilled with lubricant.
3. Corners wore off shifter clutch dogs.
4. Shifter return spring bent or broken.
5. Bent shifter rod.
6. Shift lever is loose on the shifter shaft.
7. Shifter forks sprung.
8. Shifter pawl needs adjusting.
9. Heel/toe shifter coming in contact with the floorboard.
10. Transmission oil too heavy.

Transmission not shifting completely


Sounds like you don't have enough clutch clearance. The clutch is dragging the gears. Not sure on your bike as you don't mention what you have, but in some bikes I had there was a manual clearance adjustment on the centre of the clutch. Once that is set, the play of the cable was adjusted. Of course hydraulic actuation might differ.

I too say its a stuck shift linkage.

1990 Porsche 911 Carerra 2 Targa (964)...car was shifing fine...now is stuck in second gear. Clutch will engage...but no other gear is selectable. ...no strange noises...just will not...


YEP SHIFT LINKAGE LOOSE OR WORN NEED ADJUSTMENT.ADJUST THE SHIFT LINKAGE BY POSITION THE SHIFT LEVER IN NEUTRAL .REMOVE THE REAR TUNNEL COVER IN FRONT OF THE REAR SEAT.PULL THE RUBBER DUST COVER FORWARD ON THE SHIFT ROD.LOOSEN THE CLAMP BOLT ON THE SHIFT ROD.MOVE THE TRANSMISSION SELECTOR SHAFT ALL THE ITS LEFT STOP,KEEPING IT IN NEUTRAL.WITH THE TRANSMISSION STILL IN NEUTRAL . MOVE THE GEARSHIFT ROD TO THE RIGHT TO ITS STOP.TIGHTEN THE CLAMP BOLT TO 18 FT LBS.TEST THE SHIFT LEVER PLAY SHOULD BE THE SAME IN ALL GEARS IN ALL DIRECTIONS.

How do you get a 1992 yamaha xj600 out of gear and into neutral? clutch is depressed and hitting shifter pedal still wont show neutral light or allow to start


Hi, Remington_mo try rocking the bike back and forth and the usual suspects are:
1. Clutch not disengaging.
2. Bent shift shaft.
3. Shift fork bent or seized.
4. Gear seized on the shaft.
5. Gear positioning lever binding.
6. Shift return springs weak or broken.
7. Shift return spring pin loose
8. Shift mechanism arm spring is broken.
9. Shift mechanism arm is broken.
10. Shift drum is broken.

Bike wont go into gear, just had a new clutch put on and the level was low, bike had been sitting for 4 months without being ridden. What could be the causes? it's a 1990 Ultra Classic with Big Bore Kit


With bike not running, rock the bike backwards and forwards and shift through all the gears. If it shifts all the way to fifth gear and back down, then the problem is not in the transmission. If you can't shift the transmission into any gear with the bike not running, just rocking it backwards and forwards, then you've got a problem with the transmission or the shift lever mechanism.

If it does shift but you still can't get it into gear something is strange. I've seen a clutch that the plates were locked together from sitting up, but it still would shift into gear. Of course, when it did shift into first gear, the bike would lurch forward and kill the engine. In this case, we had to disassemble the clutch pack and free the plates up. If you've had a new clutch put in the bike, it could simply need an adjustment. But, usually a new clutch will have a tendency to wear in and start to slip rather than drag. When a clutch causes the bike to lurch when put into gear or become difficult to find neutral with the engine running, it's dragging. I'd check the entire clutch adjustment to start with.

Slide the rubber boot on the clutch cable up, break the lock nut loose and turn the adjuster to make the cable as short as possible. Take the derby cover off the primary to gain access to the clutch release adjuster bolt. Break the large locknut loose, adjust the center bolt inward until you feel resistance. Back the screw back out and back in until you feel resistance again several times. You want to just take the slack out of the adjustment, not start to open the clutch up. Once you've turned the bolt in and feel the resistance, back the bolt back out 1/2 to 1 complete turn. Hold the bolt in this position and lock the lock nut again. Now, adjust the clutch cable back out until you get a freeplay of about an 1/8 inch at the lever. The clutch should be adjusted well enough to release at this point. If it doesn't, the clutch plates are probably stuck.

If the clutch plates are stuck, rock the bike back and forth and shift the bike into fourth or fifth gear. Now, while holding the clutch lever in, push the bike backwards and forwards far enough to "bump" the clutch. This may break the bond between the plates and free it up. If not, you'll have to disassemble the clutch in order to free it up. Good Luck.

no doubt your clutch has gone again, possibly the slave cylinder.
