Question about 2006 Suzuki SV 650
It sits right on the front sprocket cover

Respectfully to the previous respondents, the speed sensor is not in the transmission or front sprocket cover - it is on the front axle, on left side of the wheel.
A common failure is that the magnetic rotor gets broken because of improper wheel assembly.
Be sure to get the correct part for the year of your bike as it changed in 2007 I believe.
