SOURCE: Are there any water pump bolts behind the timing

Yes,but only if you want to remove the complete water pump including the thermostat housing. If you only want to replace the water pump(front section only) the part that leaks water from the small hole in the housing behind the pulley you only have to remove the 10mm bolts running in a circle!!

1999 continental 4.6 front wheel drive, how to remove rear valve cover,thank-you

To remove the rear valve cover on a 1999 Continental with a 4.6L front-wheel drive engine, you will need to follow these steps:
  1. First, gather the necessary tools and supplies. You will need a socket set, a torque wrench, and a drain pan to catch any oil that may leak out during the process. You may also want to have a shop towel or some cardboard handy to place under the engine to catch any oil that may drip.
  2. Locate the valve cover on the rear of the engine. It is a long, rectangular piece of metal with several bolts holding it in place.
  3. Use the socket set to remove the bolts that hold the valve cover in place. Make sure to keep track of the order in which the bolts were removed, as they may need to be reinstalled in the same order.
  4. Carefully lift the valve cover off of the engine and set it aside. There may be some oil left in the cover, so be sure to place it on a surface where it will not cause a mess.
  5. If necessary, you can now access the valve train and perform any necessary maintenance or repairs. When you are finished, be sure to clean the mating surfaces of the valve cover and the engine, and reinstall the cover using the torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the proper specification.
I hope this helps! If you have any additional questions or encounter any difficulties during the process, it is always a good idea to consult a repair manual or seek the assistance of a professional mechanic.

Shift solonoid e e is for external it the one on top of trans two screws and a plug on top it not on top Marc is correct I think I looked up camry and not solara thank you

First, check your information on the location of the shift solenoid in the Camry Solara. It is like most cars on the road. The shift solenoid is located under the drain pan cover on the valve body wall (the valve body faces the drain pan cover. To access it, you will have to do this:

  • Wait until the transmission is cool and the fluid has settled
  • Drain the transmission fluid (depending on brand automatics have up to 9.5 quarters of automatic transmission fluid in them so you can see the necessity of draining it first. Instead of having a rush of tranny fluid gushing out at you, you are only facing about one quart)
  • Place a bucket under the transmission drain pan cover
  • Loosen the 14 bolts along the cover flange
  • Gently place the transmission pan cover into the bucket
  • Let the quart or so that is left in the transmission drain out
  • Look at the valve body, just revealed by the removal of the fluid and cover
  • Locate the solenoid on the upper right of the valve body
  • Replace the right-hand one first

IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA. IF YOU CAN GET THE COVER TO STAY ON, USING JB WELD IT WOULD BE FINE. ITS JUST IMPORTANT THAT NO OUTSIDE CONTAMINANTS GET INTO THE TIMING SET. IF YOU CANNOT GET THE COVER TO STAY, JUST REPLACE.

Fig. 6: Unfasten the long starter mounting bolt, then remove the starter motor from the vehicle

Before installing the starter motor, make sure the electrical terminals are secure by tightening the nuts next to the cap on the solenoid battery terminal and on the "S" terminal. If these terminals are not tight in the solenoid cap, the cap may be damaged during installation of the electrical connections and cause premature starter failure.

To install:
Note the location of any shims so they may be replaced in the same positions upon installation.
  1. Place the starter in position, then install the starter-to-engine bolts and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  2. Attach the electrical connectors to the starter, as tagged during removal. Tighten as follows:
    1. Tighten the nut on the solenoid battery terminal to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
    2. On the SD-250 and SD-255 models, tighten the nut on the "S" terminal to 22 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm).
  3. If removed, install the flywheel inspection cover and secure with the retaining bolts. Tighten the flywheel cover bolts to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  4. If removed, install the splash shield.
  5. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.

Hope helps (remember rated and comment his).
