How much oil dose it hold whsn changing oil and filter

That's a major transmission problem. Internal issue with shifting valve.

if you have the 5.7 litre motor,your crankcase holds 5 qts. of oil with a new filter.

"Cleaned the oil filter?" You never clean an oil filter, spend 10 bucks and replace it! If it got hot you might have done some internal damage to the engine.

The oil filter should be changed everytime the oil is changed. Filters get dirty and slow the flow of oil to get to the parts that need to be lubricated and cooled. Oil and filters changed often will keep your machine shop free longer. As for the octane I would stick with manufacture specs.

I would use 10 W 40 oil in it. If you are in a super cold area use 5 W 30 in it. Castrol GTX is an excellent brand, you can use your personal favorite brand if you like. Avoid using store brands and stick with the brand names with oil. You will need to change the oil filter too when you change the oil, and you can get oil filters at any auto parts store. It is also a good idea, to change your air, and fuel filter regularly too. Figure out what you are going to do with your old oil before you drain it. Ask the auto parts store where you get the filter if they take old engine oil for recycling. Old 1 gallon milk jugs or old antifreeze jugs are great temporary containers to hold old oil.

A typical automobile holds 4-5 quarts of oil.....Depends on the size of motor. If changing yourself, Drain out all oil, change filter, put oil plug back in. Put 3- 31/2 quarts back into car. put oil cap on and start car. Let run for 2-3 minutes then shut back off. Wait for a few. Pull out dipstick wipe, put back in then pull out a second time...Now you know how much you need to top off level.

it is also a good idea to change the air filter,
but if its not too old you can soak it in gas,
when the filter gets old it falls apart.
