The seal is located at the front of trans. It seals the oil going from the torque converter to the front pump in trans.

What does the front seal look like on a 1984 f150 4x4 302 transmission

It looks like a seal. The transmission has to be removed in order to see/access it. It is most likely the transmission front pump seal you are reffering to and is internal to the transmission

Transmissions leaks a lot grey smoke, car want start.

coming from the tail pipe?if so replace the transmission modulator valve, it's located on teh side of your transmission, BUT before you do that, make sure the vacum line to the modulator valve is'nt clogged!!sorry, that just occured to me. is the transmission leaking red fluid in front or the rear of it at all? that could be a bad seal if from front or rear.transmission i know front wheel drives, if leaking one side to other side, bad axle seal, depending on which side, if leaking in middle, between motor and transmission, bad front seal.,my firm advice, check all vacum lines leading to transmission.hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com

My transmission leaks what should i replace

There are at least 5 places on the Automatic transmission that can over time, and mileage develope fluid leaks. Front converter seal at the front of the transmission, pan gasket in the center, dipstick tube o ring at the center on one side ,speed sensor o ring, and the tail shaft seal at the rear,of the transmission.
Place a flat piece or huge card board, under the engine and transmission, after driving you will see where the fluid, red in color is dripping. Its easier to spot exactly where the leak is comming if you can look under the car, while it is running, The easiest leak is the pan gasket, the dipstick tube, and the speed sensor, then the rear housing tail shaft bushing and seal.
If the front seal(converter seal) is leaking the transmission will need removed, and the seal, and maybe even the front pump bushing Replaced,it would be a good idea to replace the bushing esp if it has high mileage,80,000 or 100,000 miles of use.Change the fluid and the filter, while repareing the leak or leaks. Is a good idea.

front seal? is it the front pump seal/ torque converter seal? ( the one behind the torque converter )
this model has a lot of problem with transmission, you may have a bad transmission before you even do any work!
check your fluid make sure you fill enough and visualize the shift cable and every thing connect to the transmission. good luck!

Minor transmission leak

I would ask for a clarification request, but lets see if I can help you. Dependent on where the transmission is leaking would help greatly, but a few minor things to look at are such things like your transmission dipstick. Yes, the transmission dipstick, when removed, you'll notice a small "vent" hole in it, where it goes into the tube of the transmission dipstick. This is to allow the transmission to "vent", for if it weren't allow to vent internal pressures, then the front seal could start leaking as well as the rear seal of the transmission. If you're experiencing a leak around the transmission's pan's gasket, then a DIY (Do It Yourself), Transmission Service is in order. To know how to perform this task, I recommend a Haynes Manual (located at any Auto Parts Store), for your particular vehicle.

Should the drip or leak be at the front seal, which you will see evidence of the drip around the bell-housing or the part that bolts to the Engine, then the transmission would have to be removed to have the front seal replaced...However, BG® sells automotive products and they do sell a "Transmission Conditioner" that will lubricate dry seals or expand them to stop the leak. The old shade tree way (which I wouldn't recommend), is adding Brake Fluid to the transmission which causes the seals to swell and "perhaps", stop the drip.

Once again, should it need to be taken out to repair the front or rear seal(s), remember to clean the Vent Hole on the transmission dipstick or the problem will occur again.

Hope this helps,

Transmission fluid leaking from front of transmission as soon as the motor is started. the bell housing cover is missing and the fluid is on the flywheel. I cannot offer more detail at this time. My...

That is going to be a front main seal on the transmission if you're sure it's transmission fluid or a rear main seal of the engine if it's engine oil. I put that in here just in case you weren't positive it's transmission fluid. Either way the transmission will have to come out to replace either of those seals.

1990 Ford F250 automatic dumped all transmission fluid. Is the trans cooler stopped up or a seal blown in the transmission?

Depends on where the actual puddle is at if it was towards the front of the truck you may want to check for a broken transmission cooler line. If it was towards the rear check the rear seal of the transmission. There is also a front pump seal that could be the problem check between the trans and engine where they mount together and see if its not leaking there if it is then it would be the front pump seal.
