Starter would not disengage even after turning off the ignition an removing the key

When I tried to start the engine (Kawasaki), the starter would not disengage even after I turned off the ignition and removed the key. I disconnected the key switch and RMC plugs from the back of the dash, but the starter kept turning until the battery went weak. The only way I could stop the system was to disconnect the battery. Any ideas what the problem is?

There is a problem in the starter solenoid or starter relay if you have one
there is a possibility that the wiring from the ignition switch is incorrect and once activated stays activated

bad starter or bad ignition switch. try putting it in gear and rock it back and forth, if it starts then you have a dead spot in the starter.

Starter relay will not disengage starter new ignition switch new starter when ignition is turned to the on position motor starts relay is removed starter disengages relay socket remains "hot"

the wires at the ignition switch are wrong
the power to the relay should only be hot when the key is in the start position and not the run position

1999 Toyota Corolla CE. For about 2 months, the engine does not start immediately. I need to turn the ignition key several times until it starts. Each time when I turn the key, a clicking sound happens...

it sounds like either your having a short at the starter or the ignition switch is bad, I am leaning towards the issue being the starter, usually when the ignition switch is going bad there will be no click,

As soon as I turn the key to the on position, the engine turns over

The problem is either in the mechanism that pushes the rod that activates the ignition switch from the key lock cylinder, or the ignition switch is defective.
