'95 Lincoln town car. Husband was driving uphill and the digital dash suddenly went dark. Radio is working and a/c is not. Exterior light still working and so are interior lights besides the dash

The electronic instrument cluster is operational only when the ignition switch is in RUN. The electronic vacuum fluorescent displays are powered by a nonserviceable internal power supply. The only illumination bulb used, which is not serviceable, is for backlighting of the transmission range indicator. When the headlamps are turned on, the instrument cluster dims according to the interior lighting control paddle position (except those warnings indicated above, which do not dim).

Check fuse # 18 10amp location instrument panel fuse box .

Check fuse # 7 15 amp same location .

Instrument Cluster and Panel Lighting

  • The instrument cluster and panel lamps are powered through the fuse junction panel.
  • Illumination power is supplied through Circuit 484 (O/BK).
  • Ground is supplied through Circuit 57 (BK).
The lighting control module and panel lighting circuit provides illumination to the following:
  • electronic automatic climate control
  • electric clock (15000)
  • heated back window switch and light (18C621)
  • instrument cluster (10849)
  • transmission range indicator (7A110)
  • radio chassis front control unit and digital audio compact disc player (18D806)
  • headlamp switch illumination
  • message center switch module
Intensity of illumination is controlled by the panel dimmer switch.
nothing on the dash works , warning lights - check engine - abs - air bag , speedometer , Tach , temp gauge . etc... Back lighting ?

Visually inspect the components. Check for damaged components, blown fuses and loose or corroded connections. Check the wiring harness for obvious signs of shorts, opens or damage. Verify speedometer and odometer operation by road testing the vehicle. NOTE: Perform the following electronic instrument cluster self test as described, prior to performing any Pinpoint Tests.
  1. Press the E/M and SELECT (reverse select) buttons simultaneously while turning ignition switch from OFF to RUN. The electronic instrument cluster will enter a special test mode and display information in the center display opening. Information displayed includes a number in the speedometer display and two numbers in the odometer display, one on the left and one on the right. Both the left and right display openings will be dark (off
  2. If any of the displayed information in the center opening flashes on and off continuously, the electronic instrument cluster is inoperative and should be replaced. (After replacing the instrument cluster (10849), verify that the symptom is no longer present. If symptoms persist, begin diagnosis again.) If the display does not flash, turn the ignition switch to OFF to exit this special test mode. Then continue through the diagnosis section (the instrument cluster may or may not be damaged at this point).
    1. If the concern remains after Instrument Cluster Self-Test, connect the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 007-00500 or equivalent to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel to perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS test. If the NGS responds with NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the lighting control module, go to Pinpoint Test A . If the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS test is passed for the lighting control module, retrieve continuous DTCs and execute Self-Test Diagnostics for the lighting control module to retrieve current DTCs.
    1. If self test is passed and no DTCs are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.
    1. If DTCs are retrieved, go to the Lighting Control Module (LCM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics.
    1. If the lighting control module cannot be accessed by the NGS, go to Pinpoint Test A .
    Rotunda Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS®) 001-00001, may also be used to diagnose this system.
    You probably need a new instrument cluster ! you should take to a ASE certified repair facility or a dealer ! Or you could go to a auto salvage yard an get used cluster an see if that fixes it !

Could be a bad wire possibly chaffing or grounding out to to another wire or frame. Check your fuses. You may want to pull the dash out and check that wiring as well

Fuses are Under the Hood In Marked Box Driver side, There is a Circuit Breaker Box Suposidly Under Driver seat Also according to Dealer

Most likely not. In order to replace the bulb you will have to remove it from the dash.

Digital dash in my 1995 lincoln town car went off when alternater was replaced

I would first check the fuse for the dash, since that should be simple and a cheap fix. If not, the light in the dash may need replacement. The final and most difficult possibility would be a fault in the wiring between the dash lights and the power source.

When my head lights comes on in my 1997 lincoln town car the radio do a constant scan, just keeps scanning i have changed the light switch

My wiring in my 95 town car is going all wrong and i need to find out how to re wire it. none of my digital dash read outs work when i turn my head ljghts on and signals on dash dont work niether

We had an experience with the Lincoln Digital dash and you may want to check your alternator first.

When our alternator shorted out we did not lose power: however the speedo and odometer showed 60 mph at idle with miles being counted on the odometer. Sometimes the mph changed when we started moving.

I replaced the digital dash and was lucky to find a used one. Because of the alternator the replacement dash did the same thing. Lots of work and money for nothing.

Took the alternator into Autozone (You can drive) and got free test. Replaced alternator and everything worked again. You should check your ground wires for the turn signals or change signal stalk.

IF IT IS THE DIGITAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER YOU CAN CHECK FUSES BUT MOST OF THE TIME IT IS THE POWER SUPPLY MODULE UNDER CENT OD DASH.. LITTLE TO THE LEFT OF CENTER... SILVER BOX....THEN GET ONE FROM JUNK YARD... FUSE BOX EITHER UNDER LEFT SIDE OF DASH. OR ON SOME ODD MODELS LOOK IN GLOVE BOX COMPARTMENT

No head lights but all other lights work including

you have a bad lighting control module. $499 new, $250 from tascafordparts.com or less from ebay or car-part.com.

It is under dash above brake pedal.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Lighting Control Module Removal and Installation
  1. Open hood. Disconnect battery ground cable .
  1. Disengage three pushpins and remove lower driver side instrument panel finish panel.
  1. Locate lighting control module above accelerator pedal.
  1. Disconnect bottom two electrical connectors from lighting control module.
  1. Remove two screws retaining LCM to bracket and unclip from bracket.
  1. Remove lighting control module from bracket and disconnect two remaining electrical connectors.
  1. To install, reverse Removal procedure. Check lighting control module for proper operation.
