The relay is stuck causing the blinkers to remain on usually as heat builds up in the relay it causes the metal contact to expand and flip off and once its cooled down it can make contact once again and give power to the blinkers this happens very quickly thus you get the turn signals blinking when turned on and will hear a clicking sound coming from the relay switch ,unless its faulty and needs to be replaced .

SOURCE: turn signals

Hi!
The reason for the indicators not flashing is that there isn't enough resistance to load the flasher unit, it need 4X21Watt bulbs making at total of 84Watts for it to work correctly. It may work with less but will flash erratically.
Hope this helped?

SOURCE: '86 Shadow right front turn signal doesn't work

you may want to trace your wires to that light and check to make sure that your ground wire for that side is clean and tight that may take care of your problem all together

SOURCE: do not have rear turn signals but the front

The turn signals are controlled by the turn signal cancelling unit. There is a wiring sub-harness that take the turn signal wires to the rear turn signals. There should be two grey wires with a brown ring on one wire and a violet ring on the other. Trace these wires out and check for sorts or open circuits. Maybe the plug came unplugged. Good Luck

SOURCE: left turn signal not working proper

Turn signals flashing is the confirmation of alarm system being on.I thought both sides flashed but if alarm is faulty guess that's messed up too. Try starting from stratch with alarm, disarm it[disconnect neg wire at battery]then reconnect wire and when that sets off alarm turn it off in normal way. That should get things back on track.Plus, try replacing the flasher unit, don't know why this works but I've heard of it.

Virago 250 s indicators stop working when the engine revs rise, then start again when idle is resumed

seems like a bad earth, check battery connectors, and any earth straps between engine and frame and also the connectors from each of the indicator wiring into the harness.

I have a 88 virago 750 turn signal help

You can check earth wire is hooked up properly, also check that you haven't crimped your power wire so that it is creating an "open" circuit.

Turn signals in front don't work

the lowers being gone DOES affect the front ones, as they work on a closed circuit. Until you replace them, you'll have no front signail lights.

Brake light problems on a 2000 chevy lumina

Will your Center High-Mount Stop Light (CHMSL) illuminate when you depress the brake pedal, but the lower/outer lights will not?
-- Do you have to hold the signal lever in a certain spot to get the turn signals to flash?
-- Do you have to hold the signal lever in a certain spot to get the lower/outer brake lights to illuminate?
-- Will the signals work in one direction, but not the other?
If you answered yes to any of the preceeding questions, your turn signal switch is likely malfunctioning.

**One more question before we continue: Is the turn signal lever not "cancelling" (returning to the "off" position) after you make a turn? If this is the case, you have a broken "cancelling spring."

Before you begin disassembly of your steering column, verify the turn signal flasher is not malfunctioning. If your brake lights work fine, but not the signals (either direction,) then it's likely the flasher is burnt out. The flasher itself is located underneath the dash near where the steering column passes through the firewall
