Hi Jason:
Have you checked to make sure there is not an accumulation of grass & dirt that is creating extra drag from the mower deck?

Carburetor could possibly need cleaning or rebuild, Governor linkage could be dirty and not operating freely, or it could be out of adjustment

You have governor with a missing spring or it could be in the wrong place. If the springs are all OK then you may have a bad governor gear in the crankcase. This engine is bad about the governor gears bending the governor gear shaft.

Why does a craftsman tracor with a kohler 15.5 hp engine bogg down when engaging blades

It will initially bog down when engaging, but should pick back up shortly after. If it is staying bogged down, turn mower off and check inside (under) the deck to make sure its not clogged up with grass clippings or dirt. if it is, clean it with either a hose or a scraper. Also make sure the deck is raised when you engage (dont engage with deck lowered on long grass).

Swisher 44" mower starts and runs but engine bogs

The engine in this machine seems to be powerful. If you can remove the belt from the pulley that drives the blade. Try turning the pulley buy hand. If it turns tight or not at all this is your problem. The unit that is the pulley to blade assembly is seized or ready to seize. Sometimes they are designed to be taken apart and repaired, and sometimes they are not. Did you check for a grease fitting within the pulley to blade unit?
I would like to hear how this works out for you. Best of luck.

I have a troy bilt 42 inch 17 hp lawn tractor. The problem is when I cut grass and i get in some thicker grass the blades turn off then I back out the blades restart. The engine never bogs down

One or more of your drive belts is in need of adjustment or replacement, maybe. Possibly, your electric (or manual) PTO clutch could also be adjusted. You do have the spring tensioner on the deck engaged, right? You say the engine doesn't bog when this happens so I am inclined to think "clutch" and/or "PTO belt" to the deck and/or the "deck tensioner" are the things to check.

The tensioner will be the easiest, it is a handle on the left side ON the deck. Has a BIG spring on it. Make sure it is engaged.

Is yours a Troy Bilt manufactured in Troy New York or is it another manufacturer (MTD?). Troy Bilt is actually out of business, having sold the Troy name to a variety of makers depending on the model line. I don't have the run down on who makes what any more (tillers, chippers, mowers, blowers, trimmers, etc.), but Troy Bilt of Troy, NY is no more. :-(

I have a 16 HP Troy with 42 inch deck driven through a electric clutch. I also have a "grass pump" on my deck. Important maintenance tips: Keep the bearings greased, keep the deck clean underneath. The belt on the deck should have the tensioner released when you are NOT mowing. Keep the blades sharp and in good repair. Mow with engine at full speed. When you get to areas of heavy growth, slow the tractor down (hydro drive) or reduce to a lower gear (gear drive). NEVER adjust speed using the "clutch" (hydro drive or gear drive). When you engage the blades (electric or manual) always have the engine just above idle, bring the engine speed up slowly to preserve the belts and reduce stress on all components.

I am sure this is the fix for your trouble. If there is anything else or if I missed the ball, please let me know and we will go further.

Engine bogs down when mowing runs fine otherwise

Hi there,

Check that the blades spin freely when not engaged. The bearings may be in need of a good lubing.

The good news is 95% of the time, they bounce back completely.

When checking, be careful. Key out, etc.

Best regards

Motor chokes and misses under moderate load and loses power

Sounds to me as tho it might need a carburetor adjustment, providing there is an adjustment screw on the carb. Sounds like the engine is running a bit lean. Did this problem occur right after the carb cleaning, or was it there in advance? Is there a fuel filter that might be clogged?

Once engaged and start mowing, you can mow for about 20 feet or more and then it just slows down and the engine wants to die, but stop pulling immediately and the engine catches up and goes back to full...

This actually happened to a friend of mine! I saw it! Mow about 20 feet, and had to stop, then 20 feet...well, you get the picture. It was his air filter! Stopped up pretty good. We blew it out and it worked fine.
I really hope this helps. --W/D--

Scotts mower kohler command 25 motor bogs when mowing

Hi..my name is Keith..and it sounds like you have a binding somewhere on your mowing deck..i would check all the spindles .. pulleys and blades..and check the deck belt..it could have jumped a belt guard and it running on the outside of it..but just remember it has pulley brakes to slow the pulleys down when you shut it off..so..engage the deck without the engine running and check for the binding..i hope this has helped..if not..please write me back
