If you ever find yourself with a locked Yahoo account, it's likely due to multiple incorrect password attempts.

As a security measure, Yahoo's email and chat client servers automatically lock your account to prevent unauthorized access after there have been multiple invalid password entries.

The ID Lock security measure safeguards a Yahoo account from unauthorized users who try to access your account without permission.Cause

After multiple incorrect password entries to a Yahoo account, the server automatically sets a lock on it.
This happens because every time a Yahoo Account holder logs into his account, he's logged in with a cookie.

A cookie is an information packet that proves you are the valid account holder.
However, when a person tries to access an account with many failed attempts, the cookies expires, triggering the ID lock on the account.
24-Hour Wait

A Yahoo account holder must wait up to 24 hours before accessing the account again.
The lock on the account expires within 24 hours from the time the account was locked.

Unlock Using Another Server Since Yahoo! has many servers around the world, a user can log into his account by visiting a different Yahoo server address. (See Below.)

Copy and paste a Yahoo! server URL into the address bar of your Internet browser to access the website.

did you receive a notification message from yahoo that your account is locked? if yes, the locking time is 24hours. The account that is locked is due to multiple log ins using a wrong password. and locks after 3 or so attempts.

Wait until the lock time limit had lapsed, then log in again using the correct password.]

You may need to try and log in and hit Forgot My Password if you cannot log in again when your account is unlocked. Do not lock yourself out again, do not attempt password more than twice if you know it won't work. Each time you try to log into your account, it may restart your time and lock it down again during the waiting period.

Do NOT touch it for at least 24 hours.

If you wish to change your password after this period;

click sign in;

click i cannot access my account;

click forgot password,

click next

Enter in your email address, the security code and try to reset your password. You can also use your alternate email address, or security questions for this.

Then try and sign in again.

leave it for 24 hours , once you make too many attempts to log in, facebook auto locks the account. Someone may of tried too many times to log in. After 24 hours it will give you another chance to log in. Also it HAS To be 24 hours not 23 hours or less or it will lock it again for 24 hours

This is the new security method adapted by facebook. It helps you to detect your usual log in ip address, whenever your account is being accessed by an unusual ip address, it would temporarily lock up your account as other individuals could be accessing your account from a different location.
The only way you can resolve this is to log on to facebook with a computer and attempt to log in.
it would tell you that you account has been temporarily locked and that if you would like to re-open it, you should follow the simple procedures that would come.
Follow these procedures and it would re-open your account if done correctly.

If your computer is a part of a business network, you should contact the network administrator so he/she would setup or reconfigure your user account correctly.

If it's a home computer, you'll have to log on as Administrator to unlock your account. To do so:

1. Click Start -> Log off (user name).
2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice.
3. Type Administrator in the user name and fill in the Administrator account's password. Leave blank if there isn't any.
4. Once logged in, Click Start -> Run...
5. Type in: LUSRMGR.MSC and click OK.
6. Double-click on Users folder.
7. Double-click on your locked user account.
8. Uncheck "Account is disabled" and click OK.
9. Close "Local Users and Groups" window.
10. Click Start -> Log off Administrator.
11. Login to your user account!
    

Note: If you don't have access to the Administrator account (because you don't have the password), please do tell and I'll give you the instructions on how to reset it.

To unlock your account

1) Close Yahoo Messenger completely
2) Go to Yahoo WEB Messenger
3) Log in there
4) Hey presto your account is unlocked
5) log out of web messenger
6) reboot computer
7) Yahoo Messenger should now log in properly
