Either synthetic or conventional oils are fine as long as they are changed regularly. I prefer Mobile 1 or a mix of 2qt Valvoline VR1 20-50 and 1 qt Valvoline 20-50 Synpower for the engine. Wear tests and professional oil analysis of both have been excellent. Run Bel-Ray in the trans. It's a bit thicker than the HD stuff and will muffle the Harley "clunk" when shifting. The HD chaincase oil is fine in the primary.

Can I use traditional oil after using synthetic?

Many people think that we cannot move our motor lubrication from Artificial to standard. But it is not more than a belief. Yes we can take a move from synthetic to standard motor lubrication and synthetic engine oil is suitable with the normal lubricants. But artificial lubrication gives top rated guarantee of engine actually more than conventional lubrication.

Hi, we have found that differant makes & grades of oil used in engines can make...

Believe it or not, it is normal for these engines to use about a quart every 2000 even when they are essentially new. Note that I said, "use", not "burn". The combination of higher compression and operating temperatures causes oil to pass through the engine. You might notice your tail pipes have a good coating on the inside. I managed to slow the process by converting to Mobil 1 0W40. I get much better performance and I only use a quart every 3500-4000.

Standard oil was put in the car when I bought it whereas it had always had BMW approved synthetic. Will this oil switch damage the engine/other

Yes, it could damaged your engine, drain and replace filter with what kind was on before, always use synthetic oil,I take my Toyota tundra to dealer to get oil change, and they scan the whole system for free and give me a print out of the results,if something is wrong, they will tell me and how much or I can fix my self. That's the best place to get oil change, hidden benefits. They told me once my license plate bulb was burnt out, they replaced for a dollar.

What type engine oil does an 1988 cbr1000 take

You can use any oil that is JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. 10w-40 for cold climate/year round. 20w-50 for warm climate/touring. Automotive oils use different additives and may cause scoring in certain types of cam bearings. Do not use any oil that says " Energy Conserving " on the label . It will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. If you choose Synthetic oils, they will help your bike run cooler and shift easier. Shell Rotella T ($12 a gallon ) and Rotella T Synthetic 15w-40 ($22 a gallon) are inexpensive JASO MA oils. You will need 4 quarts of oil, an aluminum drain plug washer, and a filter. Pour in 3.4 quarts , run the motor, and check the oil level . Top up as needed.

I need to know what kind of oil a 1988 jeep comanche uses?

If you have no engine leaks, you can run a 10w 30 or 20w 40 oil in your engine. I use full synthetics in all mine and add lucas engine additive as well. If you have leaks it gets expensive to use synthetics.
Always use a good quality filter ...that is the key to keeping your oil doing it's job. Change intervals should be 3,000 miles with conventional oil and 5,000 using synthetic.

OIl, synthetic or regular, what's the difference?

Synthetic oil won't break down as quickly as conventional oil, gives better protection and longer life. Excellent product, I Strongly suggested for those out there who forget to do their oil changes regularly or courier/ work vehicles.
Heres the link to an explaination from Castrol
I use conventional Oil in my jimmy with 5% of Lucas engine oil treatment and service the engine every 3,000 miles. I find it to costly for the Synthetic oil every 3,000 miles, and as for the high mileage oil you can buy. The high mileage oil has a higher fluid retention like adding Lucas engine oil treatment to any conventional oil, so you decide on what type of oil you like to use in your engine.
Good luck and hope this helps.

What weight oil should I use in my 1988 wrangler? tks

Any good quality name brand 10w/30 or 20w/40 oil will be fine in your engine. Even in an engine that old, I use a good synthetic. Generally they give better protection and thermal stability than conventional oil as well as having a longer life-span. (google: noyac volatility tests) for good information on this. The only time I would refrain from using a synthetic is if the engine has a bad oil leak. Synthetics are expensive and if it is leaking out, it can cost too much to keep it topped off. If your engine is relatively leak free, a good synthetic can actually reduce your oil consumption as most tend to soften age hardened seals and will also dissolve carbon deposits in the piston ring-lands, freeing binding rings.
One thing to keep in mind is that you need to pay attention to the micron rating of the filter you use. (smaller is better). Regardless of oil type, contamination due to poor filtration can turn any lubricant into "liquid sandpaper" on a microscopic level.
Good luck!!
