I have very little oil pressure in a 1340 evo, what can I do?

I lost a lot of oil pressure in a 1340 evo I thought it may be the feed line because it was routed directly underneath the starter and was slightly kinked. So I rerouted the line towards the back of the starter wich gives it a little more clearance. I started it up and right away I noticed I had plenty of pressure. After running it for a few minutes it dropped from 30 down to 10-15lbs.

Hi Nathan:
It's normal for the oil pressure to drop after the engine warms up. The important question is, Do you have good oil pressure at driving speeds (higher engine RPM)?

Actually it seemed like it got worse and my rockers were clattering. When I would give it throttle It was only reaching about 15lbs. I cleaned out the screen on top of oil pump. Im thinking check feed line for kinks and or possibly worn out oil pump.??

If you have good oil pressure when the engine is cold that tells me that the pump is probably OK. I'd be worrying about a tired engine with worn main and connecting rod bearings. How many miles on the motor? I'd be quite comfortable with increasing the oil rating or using an additive like STP. It's NOT a good idea to run it if the rockers are clattering.

Which pipe is the feed from the oil tank on 2000 evo 1200

The way to tell on Harleys is as follows (with explanations).

If you pull the oil lines one at a time, the following will happen:

On the oil return, and the vent line, oil will not flow out (except maybe a little residual oil).

On the feed line (oil tank TO oil pump), oil will flow out, especially it the oil cap is removed!

NOW, if you\'re asking because you want to install an inline oil filter or oil cooler, the feed line IS NOT the one you want to install this on!!!

Why?

The feed line is gravity fed to the oil pump, and there is no pressurization in this line, and the line could cavitate (suck air), especially if the filter/cooler are mounted too high!

The RETURN line is where you want to install these items, as this line is pressurized with the engine running, forcing the oil through them on the way back to the oil tank.

So which is the vent, and which is the return?

Pull the two lines you have already identified as NOT being the feed line (as described above), start the bike and run for ONLY about 5-30 seconds (or however long is needed), and see which line has oil coming out of it under pressure.

THIS is the line to install an oil filter and/or cooler.

Loss in oil pressure screamin egle 103 2006

On SOME of the Harleys with the oil tank mounted below the transmission, the oil feed line needs to be "bled", so the oil pump doesn\'t "cavitate" (suck air).
Unhook the oil feed (not return) line at the engine, and allow some oil to flow out (removing oil fill cap helps) to get air out of line.
Replace line and try again.
Also, if you didn\'t pour some oil into the filter prior to installing it, it will take a little time for it to fill (AFTER the oil runs through the engine)

1997 harley davidson 1340 evo engine has no oil pressure

MY 1995 1340 evo roadking oil light stays on at idle when the engine is hot, I've chenged the oil and filter using genuine harley davidson, changed the oil pressure switch and even done a full engine flush with 4 litres of flush oil which as made the oil light stay on until 1200 RPM's, before i flushed the system the light would go off at a round 1000/1100 rmp's.

2006 sporster 1200 lots of valve noise has oil pressure.think it is colasped lifters. what your thoughts.or trouble shooting tips without breaking down the engine

If you're having that much valve noise, you have probably lost oil pressure for some reason. Take your oil filter off the engine and take the spark plugs out. Spin the engine with the starter and watch for oil to pump out of the fitting for the oil filter.

Now, you didn't mention how loud the valve noise was. If you have indeed lost oil pressure to your tappets, the noise will be quite noticable, not just a slight rattling. Your bike will sound like a pea thrasher.

The late model Sportster oil pumps are not like the older models that were so bad about shearing the drive pins. The late model doesn't have the pins. They have flat drive angles on the oil pump shaft. About the only thing that I can think of that would cause a loss of oil pressure on a Sporty is a piece of trash got into the tank and is blocking the inlet to the pump or the pump is air locked for some reason. Unscrew the oil pressure sending unit and spin the engine over long enough to pump out a few ounces of oil.

I've only seen one Evo Sporty lose oil pressure. Someone had tried to stop an oil leak in the oil tank by Creme coating the tank. Creme is designed for a fuel tank, not an oil tank. The coating cannot take the heat of the hot oil, becomes brittle and starts flaking off.

Good Luck
