Your EGR valve is probably stuck open, doesn't help to clean them. EGR valves are designed to work after approx. 40-50 mph.

A bad gasket would probably be a miniscule leak unless its totally disintegrated, the vehicle should still start and run. Make sure you didn't bump and disconnect a connector near the EGR valve. Why did you clean the EGR valve in the first place?

Three of your EGR intake ports are likely blocked up and need to be cleaned. The one that's free is receiving too much egr gas and that's what causes the engine to stumble. It's a common problem, but one that's usually misdiagnosed, with that 2.2L Accord engine. Have the ports cleaned out asap or the cylinder one that's getting all the excess egr gas will burn out it's intake valve and cost you much more to repair, requiring the engine head to be removed.

How would your car (2001 Focus) react if either you ERG sensor or valve need to be changed and would they both cause engine light to come on.

The idle would be rough. And the check engine light will come on. It can be cleaned out or replaced, They are about $50 and up. Hope this helps.

95 villager/quest. I have changed fuel filter ,plugs, distributor, cleaned maf sensor , also replaced hose on back side of egr. Still hesitates from idle to about 3300 rpm then starts running great. chugs...

the egr should be replaced or removed and cleaned with a good carburettor cleaner and checked for operation. the 34 refers to the knock sensor not having the right info to be sent to the ecu(in simple terms). you may have to replace the knock sensor but this is in the centre of the engine under the intake. takes a few hours. plan of attack: first have the vehicle scanned for p0 codes and with a scanner that reads "live data". what youre looking for is when youre accelerating the engine timing should be changing. if its not, change the knock sensor. then attack the egr which may be a little more difficult to fix. try the cleaning and check for operation. verfity all hoses are good and routing is correct. verify vacuum at the source. what causes an engine to start running great is it is dragging the affected cylinder and can longer be felt at those rpms. it wouldnt hurt to perform a compression check on this either. let know. cheers

Blocked Passage on ERG System, or Failed ERG Valve, or ERG solenoid Faulty

Very common on Ford engines with EGR codes is the tube inside the intake manifold that takes unburned exhaust gasses and recirculates them back into the engine for reburning, the tube becomes restricted from hydrocarbons and just plugs up.The intake manifold and tube has to be removed and thoroughly cleaned.

What feels like a slight miss when you put a load on the engine...2.3L

it will not be egr valve ,check the timing of the engine first and eliminate this then make sure you have used the correct plugs then start looking at, oxygen sensor , air flow meter but check timing first
