SOURCE: 2004 Honda Shadow Aero stalls

There seems to be low gas level in the float chamber of the carburator.
Clean the carburator and check the float level and reset.
With the choke 'on' and if you hit the throttle it will die because there is a restriction of the air flow to the carburator.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 Yamaha

The choke is only supposed to be closed when starting a cold engine and during warm up. As the engine warms up, the choke will open. If you try to close the choke on a warm engine, it will starve for air and die. I don't understand why you are trying to close the choke while you are riding. Are you sure you don't mean the engine will not run when the choke is open? If it will only stay running with the choke closed, you probably have a vacuum leak or a gasket leaking causing the engine to run lean. Closing the choke would limit the supply of air to the engine resulting in a richer mixture.

SOURCE: bike starts and runs fine with full choke, once

Same problem, runs fine with choke on, but when i touch the throttle it bogs out, sounds like its not getting any fuel. I cleaned out the carb and used fresh gas, but the problem persists. I'm going to try cleaning the air filter and getting a new plug. If thats not it it could be eletrical.

Have a PB-250, ran great but now only runs full throttle, does not idle low.

You've been running the unit with the wrong oil to gas ratio and now the unit runs rich - there is no real way to fix it at this point - you can adjust the carb but it will not probably hold the idle you desire - but then again blowers are to be ran wide open 85% of the time so don't sweat it too much on this unit but practice better maintenance and a proper mix ratio in the future.

I cant start my leaf blower

I would suggest a new plug and fresh gas and oil mix.push the primer bulb 8-10 times and turn choke to full.pull cord about 4 or 5 times until it starts.if it don,t stay running turn choke to half and pull cord until starts should stay running.let run for about 10 seconds then turn off choke.Almost forgot that during this whole process you hold throttle wide open.

Just replaced the carb, fuel lines, filter and gasket that goes between the carb and cylinder wall. All brand new parts. I believe lines are connected correctly. Now the engine runs like it is on full...

I don't think it has anything to do with the high/low settings, but in case was the carb pre adjusted or did you adjust them yourself. Did you put the throttle cable in the right hole on the throttle plate if there is more than one. Check the idle speed screw (not the low needle) to make sure it is not causing this. Look to make sure the throttle butterfly is not binding in the open position or that the throttle cable itself is the culprit. Maybe your gasket moved when re-installing causing plate to stay open. I suggest removing carb and inspecting for any of these problems. Maybe there is something wrong with your new carb! I hope this helps out. Happy to answer any questions.

Carb and throttle adj.

Here is how to do it. First disconnect the throttle cable to the carb and let it hang loose. Make sure the outdrive is in neutral and the boat is secured to the dock or on a trailer with a water ****.

Pull back on the throttle by hand directly on the carb throttle shaft. Observe the Choke cam on the opposite side of the Carb. Let go of the Carb throttle shaft and see where the Stepup Cam is set. The Choke plate should be closed most of the way. You will not have very much time to make an adjustment.

Start the engine and let the Choke work and observe the RPM. There are usually adjustments you can make to put the Stepup Cam on a lower step by bending the Link Rod if it is running too high in Choke. Sometimes the Cam is left alone and a screw similar to the Curb Idle screw on the Throttle side just needs reduction to ride lower on the Choke Cam.

After the Choke is warm, it disengages with a pull on the Throttle. Now you are using the Throttle side of the Carb to operate the engine RPM. You want a low RPM for sake of the outdrive gears and NO WAKE zone. The adjustment screw opens the Throttle shaft, You set it for the Manufacturers Spec. probably 550 RPM.

The Throttle cable is now adjusted so it pushes slightly against the Carb. This forces the throttle closed. The Throttle cable has threads and a sort of Knurled knob which runs on these threads. This device is used to lengthen or shorten the cable so that pressure is applied against the Throttle.

When the outdrive is in water you will has resistence on the Exhaust. This will slow the RPM. If the motor stalls you will need to adjust the motor to idle Specs while in the water.

For best economy, find a Vacuum port and attach a Vacuum guage to it and adjust the air mix to the highest Vacuum reading then turn in the Mixture screws slightly until the vacuum starts to drop.

Idle runs too high when I come to a stop, for about 5 seconds.

The throttle body may need to be cleaned. Take off the induction hose to the throttle and open the plate. Make sure the vehicle is not running. With the throttle plate wide open, soak a cloth rag with carb and choke cleaner and work the rag around the inside of the body especially where the plate's closed position is. remove the rag and spray a small amount of carb cleaner down the throat of the throttle body. replace hose and run vehicle at 1500 rpm's for a few seconds. This should fix the idle. It should be idling at about 800 rpms.

Will not run on open choke

HI,

I TALKED TO MY SISTER WHICH IS AN INSPECTOR FOR WEEDEATER COMPANY SHE TOLD ME IT HAS CLOGGED FUEL LINE OR THE TANK IS DIRTY. ALSO CHECK THE PRIMER BULB FOR HARDNESS OR CRACKING THIS ALSO CAN ALLOW A LEAN OUT CONDITION YOU ARE EXPERIENCING. EMPTY THE TANK AND WASH IT OUT WITH FRESH GASOLINE. SETTING FOR THE IDLE SCREW IS 1.5 TO 2 TURNS OUT WHEN TURNED OFF AND FULL THROTTLE SETTING IS HOLD THE THROTTLE WIDE OPEN AND TURN THE SCREW IN UNTIL MAXIMUM RPM IS ACHIEVED. HOPE THIS HELPS GOOD LUCK!
