Assuming it worked before,, I assume you mean it wont shift, so does the master clutch cylinder have fluid? have you bled out the slave cylinder for air? that would be my next step, clean out the old fluid and pull in some new.

Bmw r1150 gs gearbox

Hi, Gary you may need to overhaul your transmission shifting forks and or drum for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. When i engage the clutch and select any gear the bike will leap forward and stall. In other words I cannot pull the clutch in and start the bike.

If the bike hasn't been ridden for a while, select top gear, (engine off) and with the clutch pulled in rock the bike back and forth. That may free the clutch.

My huffy triton 26 18 speed bike will not select any of the 3 main gears the derailer does not move when you try to select gears. all back gearing works fine. the gearing system on the bike is a shimano...

The problem has nothing to do with the derailleur itself. Either your shift cable has stretched and is now too loose (in which case the shifter will move but have no effect on derailleur movement), the cable/housing is rusted (in which case the lever will usually not move at all), or the lever is broken or gummed up (in which case it will move, but you will get no clicks). Each problem has a separate solution. Either take to a bike co-op for help in fixing it, to a bike shop to have them estimate and repair it, or go to a site like Park Tool's Repair Help and learn how to fix it. It's very difficult to instruct you with just words, and good options are already available.

Gear box goin in to gear but still like it is in nutural

If you select a gear without pulling clutch in it will grind and stall.
If you are certain the bike is engaging a gear and still seems it is in neutral, your clutch drive is broken.
Alternatively, the gear selecter fork bolts maybe loose behind the sidecover, allowing selector to partially engage only and return to neutral. Try selection thru' higher gears, place bike on a stand and turn back wheel in gear, if gears turn and motor doesn' is the clutch. If you cannot select a gear proper with rear wheel turning, your selecter is suspect.
Goodluck, and Cheers.

Sometimes have problems selecting first gear, does not always engage although feels like it is home, feel like gearchange clunky and at times loose and vague,is this possible characteristic of bike.

Is the first bike?
When you try to select from the second to first, if doesn' working, just easy release the clutch while trying to select first gear. Do not release completly. Just a little bit, and it will work.
At some bikes you could select easier, at anothers...harder, and so on...but this solution is universal available for bikes. If this work, is not faulty.
