Question about Harley Davidson Motorcycles
Hi Peter, you have a broken or exposed to to ground power wire. Get out your test lite and connect it to the power side of the fuse clip. Start at the tailight stabbing wires, conector block pins, ect. and work your way towards the front and rear brake light switches. When the test lite glows then you are very close to the problem. The web site below may assist you with a wiring diagram that comes close to your year and model.

It sounds like you should check for power at brake pedal switch. Hook up a test light to the switch and press the brake pedal. If the light does not go on and you have power in the wires to the switch then the switch should be replaced.
I hope this helps you out

I KNOW YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT.WAS AN ALARM INSTALLED OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF ACCESSORY? CHECK WITH DODGE TO FIND OUT ABOUT A RECALL.IF SOMETHING WAS INSTALLED, TAKE IT BACK THERE TO STRAIGHTEN IT OUT IF NOT HAVE A AUTO TECHNICIAN CHECK IT FOR YOU.

This may sound too simple, but first verify that you are getting voltage to the light socket. Use meter on d.c. If you are getting voltage, and your bulb is good, it could be a bad ground. Don't overlook the brake light system goes through the directional signal in the steering column.
