Where can I find the oil drain plugs on my 1989 Harley FXR? I'm doing a complete oil change. Ive looked at tons of different sites but the plugs don't match the location my bike.

I am not sure why the year of the FXR did not come up in the drop down options under year. IT IS A 1989 FXR SUPERGLIDE I am having a hard time finding the drain plugs so I can do a complete oil change. I've looked at multiple sites and got 2 different answers - neither drain locations match up to my bike! Super frustrated! Please help so I can do this correctly!

Hi David, for a 1989 FXR the engine oil drains out of the oil tank via a rubber hose located at the rear bottom left corner, the transmission drains from a large threaded plug located on the bottom center of the transmission case, the primary chaincase oil drains from a small threaded pipe plug located on the outside of the primary cover directly below dead center of the clutch inspection cover. Good luck

Where is the oil plug located on a 1999 harley fxr

The bike uses a drain tube. So it is a dry sump and no drain plug on the engine. Look on the left side of the bike follow from the oil tank to see it. Better yet try a Google search for pics,

How do i drain my motor oil for my 1987 fxr?

The oil drain is behind one of the frame covers but I don't remember which one. The right one I think. Anyway there isn't but two bolts holding the covers on.

I NEED THE OIL CAPACITY FOR THE 35 MM FORKS ON A 1986 FXR TOURING MODEL.

The FXR had the same front fork tubes as the Sportster. Harley-Davidson Type "E" fork oil is recommended. The fluid capacity dry (after disassembly) is 6.4 ounces. The fluid capacity wet (drain and refill) is 5.4 ounces.

Oil change for 1994 fxr

Best as I can remember, the oil drain plug is behind the small frame side cover on the right hand side. Drain the oil, change the oil filter, refill the tank with three quarts of oil.

Can't figure out how to drain the oil on my 1988 fx. The oil filter is fwd of the rear tire on the bottom. I removed it and the normal amount of oil was in it but no more came out. I've looked it over and...

The only FX model that I can think of that the oil filter was in front of the rear tire is an FXR. On the FXR, the oil tank is under the seat. If this is the case, the oil drain is behind one of the side panels. Seems like it's behind the right side panel as best as I can remember. I don't change much oil anymore as most of the poeple that I work on their bikes change their own. I do the more complicated work but seems like I'm right on this. Anyway, the drain is behind one of the side panels and the electrics is under the other.

Good Luck

Where is the oil plug located on a 2005 Harley FXR?

I didn't think Harley made the FXR anymore. I thought they discontinued that bike in 1999 or so. But, just in case, the FXR's oil tank was under the seat. The drain was located at the bottom of the tank on the left side of the bike under the triangluar shaped frame insert.

Now if the bike is and FXD Dyna Super Glide, the oil tank is on the bottom of the transmission. Under the transmission, there are two drain plugs, one is located near the center of the oil pan and this is the transmission drain plug. The engine oil drain plug is located towards the left front of the oil pan. Drain the oil with the bike on the side stand.

To determine the exact model of your bike, search the Internet for the "Harley alphabet" You should be able to find a site that helps you decode your serial number (VIN#) to determine the exact model of your bike.

Good Luck

How do I change the oil and filter in a 1987 Harley Davidson FXR? I cannot find the drain plug.

You can find the drain plug , under the crank case, at the bottom, underneath the frame.
If you have a oil filter, you should change it as well as pumping all the old oil out of the cooler, if you have one.
Have fun, hope this helped you out.

Right hand side should be a drain plug on your oil bag. Its right above your starter.
