- Now days some carburetors are produced which are fixed and no adjustment is provided.The float is made up of whole plastic like material.
Some floats have the copper/metal notch for the adjustment of fuel level.
- Take the carburetor assembly out.
- Remove the fuel bowls.
- Place the carburetor assembly with the floats upward towards yourself.
- Float level gauge and active data list (taken from the workshop manual) is required to carry out the adjustment. But you can simply adjust the float level correctly without any gauge.
- Hold the carburetor assembly at your eye level in such a way that the carburetor No. 1 is in front of you. Behind is No. 2 carburetor, then behind is No. 3 and then the No. 4. Or we can say that the carburetor No. 1 hides the carburetors 2, 3, and 4.
- Examine carefully the floats of all the individual carburetors be parallel to the surface of the carburetor where the float bowl face is seated and tightened.
- Adjust the float level by bending the float notch towards the needle valve (to decrease the float level and to raise the float) or away from the needle valve to increase the float level (to lower the float).

Yes you can buy a needle valve assembly which consists of a needle ,o ring,and needle seat.in the UK they are about £40 each !

Hi,
That means you only adjusted the float and did not check the needle stopper/valve that stops the fuel flow going into the fuel chamber.
Check the valve if it needs to be replace or some dirt might hampers the sealing of the needle.
PLEASE DON'T USE SILICONE ON CARBURETOR( silicone dissolves when mixed w/ gasoline )!
Use a 3bond sealer.

My suzuki gs400 keeps overflowing with gas from the breather tube! the carbs have been checked and this keeps hapenning?


This still sounds like a carb issue to me. 2 likely causes are incorrect float height and, most likely of all, a sticky float needle. Did you get a dealer to do the work? If so, have a go yourself, its not difficult if you take your time.
First, try gently tapping the carb float bowl, this may (but not always!) stop the overflow and clearly indicates a sticky float needle. You need to remove the carb that overflows (or both). Remove the float bowl (usually four little screws). Looking at the bottom of the carb, you will see the float assembly. This works just like a 'toilet'. As the float bowl fills, the float rises and eventually shuts the float valve (which stops the fuel flow from the tank). Remove the float assembly (normally held in place with a pin). Under the 'tang' on the float will be the float needle. It will tip out easily. Check its condition. Also check the float seat. Make sure both are clean, unmarked and spotless.
Be very careful how you take the carb apart, it is a cast assembly and not very strong.
If the float level is incorrect, then you need to adjust the 'tang' on the float assembly to adjust this. You need a manual to do this Im afraid for the method/mesurement to set the float to the correct height.

I went to install my carburetor,and when i hooked it up,and turned the gas on, gas was pouring out of the third carb right on the ground. how can i fix it?


The float is stuck in that carb, remove the carbs again remove the float bowl on that carb see if the float will move up and down easily including the needle valve if not strip it clean it replace all components adjust the float to the correct height(you will find that information in a workshop manual) refit the bowl again and carbs refill with fuel and see if it stiil overflows, if so you will need to strip the carb again and replace the needle valve.

just tear it all out and replace the parts, not much to that part, but be very carefull with the posts that hold the floats. To set the float level, set them upside down on a level surface and look to see if the floats look level to the horizon of the earth. If they need adjusted, bend the little tab one way or the other (the tab that pushes on the float needle. Good luck, it isn't a hard project, but they are very touchy so don't be surprised if you have to take them back out a couple of time to adjust stuff. Good luck

I have a 1995 katana with mikuni carbs. i cleaned them and know they leak gas into the crack case. what im i not doing right ?


ok it seems to be overfilling the bowls in the carbs make shure the floats in the carb are working and not filled with liquid if made of metal they must be leveled any bending if the tabs on the floats will cause irregular level in the carb another one is the check the float needle and make shure the rubber tips are not damages and check there seats for debri bloking the fuel port! good luck!
