My 1980 pe 250 is getting fire from magnetio to cdi box but not to coil put new cdi box off a running pe 250 and still no fire to coil

SOURCE: no spark put on a new cdi box coil good and a new

hi,sounds to me like your cdi pickup unit has failed,i am not 100% certain but this will be located on the end of the crankshaft behind one of the enginecovers,there could be two other possibilities,motox bikes are notorious for breaking wires so check the wiring from the cdi sender unit to the cdi box and the coil,also check your "off"button it may be stuck in the "kill" position..hope this helps..cheers ian

when the ignition parts like the coil and the transistors in the cdi unit gets warmed up they dont work as well as when there cool,,,so a problem thats not there when cold will be there when its hot,,,,if the stator has a small fault in it when cold when it gets hot it turns into a big fault! the best way to find this fault is by swoping one part at a time till you fine the faulty part,,,or put it into the bike shop and pay through the knows for the fix? have you a friend with the same type of bike you could swop the parts with??? it a big big help if you have! i would start with the coil then the cdi unit,,,there the most likley parts to play up when they get to hot they go faulty!

May be CDI, but check all your grounds first. Make sure you have a clean metal to metal connection of the coil to frame. Disconnect the leads going to the kill switch also. you may have a high resistance to ground short. Also, did you replace the lead coming out of the coil going into the spark plug? did you reuse the old lead?

if you have replaced all that it sounds like it is the stator. its an alternator for small engines. get one on ebay cause factory are always expensive. its located behind the pull start. take that off then the side case cover.

1977 yz 250 isn't getting fire


Check the points for proper gap and clean. The old school bikes used more than just coil and plugs. Also, often overlooked, check the kill switch connection. Often this is the case on Yamahas.

find a running sr 250 and swop his cdi unit with yours if the bike runs, fine. if not put his cdi back in and try again. if the good bike now starts it will indicate that your cdi is faulty. the cdi is located under the tank inside the frame. don't buy a second hand cdi unless you can test it on a working bike. they are very expensive and you don't want to buy a dud

I have a kz250 engine but no cdi box can i use another one to replace this one or do you know where i can get one from


Hello Pam, the controllers on the Kawasaki, KLT 250 Prairie, 1983-1985 are suppose to be the same...i have never swapped a CDI controller on the older KZ 250's, so i can not advise if another unit would work. I did however locate a new replacement for your bike. Here is the link.

1980 xs400 se will not get spark some wires burnt


possible the cdi unit went the journeyat the same time, only way to tell is to try another cdi. best of luck.

if you do not have fire only three things control this stator coil cdi more than likley you have a bad cdi u can get the cdi off ebay cheapest

Lost all elce, power while riding my 1980 kawaski 750 ltd 4cyl. just shut down, no elec. power at all now. ck'ed battrey and terminals


It is either the stator plate or coil if not getting spark, if it is just the electronics part, then it is the cdi box or equivelant
