Question about 2010 KTM EXC 530 Champions Edition

Started bike for the first time this year, the clutch is not engaging at all. The lever offers no resistance. Checked fluid and was low so I topped up but it did not change anything. Suggestions?

while engine is not running follow the clutch cable back to its point of origin & look for any other clutch adjustments besides the the one at the clutch handle if all clutch cable adjustments are backed off & clutch is still slipping its time for a new clutch assy buy a clymers repair manual,

Have a problem with the clutch. On cold days my clutch would not engage. drained the fluid and cleaned out the resevoir to the master cylinder. Fluid after cycling came back dirty. Took apart the master...


Old dirty fluid may still be caught in the seals of the piston or may have damaged them.
This will stop the piston from returning all the way and engaging the do not start if not in neutral or stand not up, If clutch is pulled in it will bypass these safety stops until released.

Hyd.clutch for transmisson will not engage or dis-engage,brkn.,inop.total broke...would like complete info on the repair....I have not ck'd the problem myself..i u/stand it could be a bleed job.. the bike...


Hello,

You might try the following 1st:

1) Remove the dust cap from the bleed valve on the Clutch Slave Cylinder.
2) Connect a clear tube to the bleed valve on the Clutch Slave Cylinder - make sure you have a long enough length of tubing so that you can put a loop in the tubing higher than the bleed valve to prevent air from entering the system.
3) Place the other end of the tube into a clean container and fill the container with enough DOT 4 fluid to keep the end of the tube submerged.
4) Clean the top of the Clutch Master Cylinder and remove the screw holding the cover on. Remove the cover and the diaphragm.
5) Check the fluid level, and if low, fill the reservoir almost to the top line. Replace the diaphragm and cover and tighten the screws loosely.
6) Apply the Clutch Lever, slowly, several times and hold the lever in the applied position. Open the Bleed Valve and allow the Clutch Lever to compress completely. Tighten the Bleed Valve and release the Clutch Lever.

Repeat this step until all air bubbles are out of the system. NOTE: make sure to check the reservoir often to keep the fluid level full so air won't enter the system. When finished, make sure to keep the Clutch Lever pulled all the way in and tighten the bleed valve then replace the dust cap. If the lever still feels spongy, it will be necessary to repeat all the steps again until the Clutch Lever feels firm and gives the same feel each time it is applied.

Once you are finished bleeding the clutch system, make sure the fluid reservoir is full and tighten the screws on the cover. Do not apply too much force when tightening these screws as they have a tendency to strip.

the milky oil is caused from water or coolant in the oil. good job on changing that right away. as for the clutch, since it sat so long, the plates are probably just stuck together. you can try taking them out and reinstalling them after soaking in fresh oil, or just replacing them.

Contaminated fluid in the hydraulic clutch actuation system. Instead of a cable, your bike has a hydraulically actuated clutch. This system is great because it offers low maintenance and a relatively light clutch lever pull.
You will need to flush the system, refill with the appropriate fluid (check the owner's manual, but it is probably DOT4 brake fluid), inspect for leaks, and bleed.

Nope. Pressure plates use mechanical springs which don't fail with this symptom. It's your pressure cylinders for the clutch fluid. Either the main cylinder that is activated when you squeeze the lever or the slave cylinder that moves when fluid is displaced from the main cylinder. Check the fluid level in the small tank usually located on the handle bar and connected to the lever housing. No fluid = source of problem. Refill with the proper fluid. However, if the fluid has gotten very low, you may have gotten air into the fluid line and will need to "bleed" the system to restore good lever pressure and clutch function. Buy a repair manual...Chilton, Clymer, etc.. for your bike for details.

Clutch push rod will not depress to engage


go to this http://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-rt1-19701971_model8356/partslist/A-09.html and then click on "view big image", this will give you a diagram of the clutch etc,, the adjustment (No. 26) may need looking at, or (No.11,12,) have broken.Basically you turn 26 in (clockwise) untill you feel light resistance then back off 1/2 turn (been years since i worked on one of these!) this should give you freeplay, have you just got the bike?, and do you think it has been stripped lately(ie the clutch). Kick start is jammed


Put the bike in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear, the higher the better. Sit on the bike, with your hand off the clutch lever, and rock the bike back and forth to rotate the clutch hub. This might free up the lever. You will need to drain the oil and remove the right side casing to see and service the kick starter. If I recall correctly, there is a spring clip that allows the kick gear to engage the clutch hub. The piece could be broken, weak or out of position.

I've got a 98 Monster 750. I just replaced the Slave Cylinder with an aftermarket Moto Wheels Slave Cylinder and now the clutch wont engage. I've bled the system and the Clutch Lever seems to have appropriate resistance. However the clutch won't engage. It has a very weak feeling of pulling when it's in gear but throttle input does not affect it. Thanks to anyone and everyone that can help.Have you checked with MotoWheels about their unit? They'd know it best, and could hopefully shed some light on it. What kind of bleeder did you use? I've had the best luck with a MightyVac set up, where you draw the fluid out from the bleed screw, rather than pump the lever.,,,
