Slight trace of oil at the bottom of rear air shock

Having tried to fit a luggage rack round the suspension noticed slight trace of oil from shock

Hi it could be the seal in the shock. These are air assisted shocks not just air. If the leak is not too bad leave it alone otherwise you may need to replace the whole shock. Regards Jim...

Hi Tony, sadly the hydraulic portion of the shock is a sealed unit and is not repairable. As the oil seeps out over time you will notice abnormal rear tire wear. Good luck

Front fork or rear shock ? Forks can be rebuilt with new sale,bushes and oil some rear shocks can be rebuilt but usually only good makes like white power and Ohlins.

1. Improperly loaded motorcycle. Non standard equipment on the front end such asheavy radio receivers, extra lightning equipment or luggage tends to cause unstable handling.
2. Incorrect air suspension pressure.
3. Damaged tire(s) or improper front-rear tire combination
4. Irregular or peaked front tire tread wear.
5. Incorrect tire pressure.
6. Shock absorber not functioning normally.
7. Loose wheel axle nuts.
8. Excessive wheel hub bearing play.
9. Improper vehicle alignment.
10.Steering head bearings improperly adjusted.

My 98 Cadillac DeVille rear air suspension system works great UNTIL I load weighted luggage in trunk and passengers in back seat. I then drive around for 15 to 45 minutes and thats when the rear end of the...


Common problem on all air suspension vehicles. It could be that there is a hairline crack in one of the shock bladders or that the pump is just too weak to pump up to it's intended pressure, a sensor or solenoid could also be bad.

Whenever I run into this problem I order a spring conversion kit for that vehicle, it is usually not worth spending $3000+ to repair the suspension.

www.Strutmasters.com sells the best kits, $327.00 for the rear. It also comes with a resistor so that your suspension light is not on.

Weaping fork seals.


a trace is normal, to much is not. that probable is due to dryed out fork seal, as they ere not getting lubed due to inactivity. the air fittings are for ajustable damping. if you ride 2 up or yourself being heavy or you just want a firmer fork suspension. i don;t know the range for your bike. try asking the dealer.or just put in 5 lbs. and try. if the presure doesn't last then you have leaky seals......
