Hi kimberly, try isolating the problem before you start throwing parts at it. Battery should be fully charged 12.8 volts and connections are tight. Use a test lite to check for power at both sides of all circuit breakers and fuses. When checking for spark make sure your plugs have clean electrodes and you ground the threads against metal. Try a different spark plug and plug wire either off another bike or your car. Check for power at the coil only one terminal should light. If you still don't have spark then it could be a bad ignition sensor or a bad ignition module. Remember also any electrical component you check must have clean and tight connections. Good luck

Engine won't fire-no spark. New plug.

Check stop switch mechanism (kill switch, safety interlock cable). Check for damaged coil wire to spark plug. Make sure coil wire is completely seated onto spark splug. Sometimes the coil wire gets damged and shorts out to the shroud.

Getting no fire to the spark plug

What year is it???

A simple coil test is: Take the plugs out of the cylinder heads and lay them back on it so that they have a good ground. Then watch the spark plugs closely when you turn the ignition switch off. You should see a single spark on each plug. This tell you that the coil is getting fire and that it is good and your problem lies elsewhere.

Otherwise,
Test the primary coil resistance on your coil. Disconnect all the wires going to the small terminals (primary) on your coil. Using a good ohmmeter on Rx1 setting, test the resistance between the two small terminals. You should read somewhere between 2 and 3 ohms. If you read more, the coil is bad. Before you do this test short out both leads of the ohmmeter and if the reading is not zero you will need to write down or otherwise remember the number and subtract it from the reading you get from the primary circuit test or you will have an incorrect resistance reading for the primary wires because you will also be reading the ohmmeter internal resistance and/or the wire and lead resistance added to the primary wiring resistance.

You can also test the coil by leaving the "hot" wire on the coil and replacing the other side (ground side) with a short piece of wire. Turn the ignition on and temporarily ground the short piece of wire you put on the "out" (ground) side. When you take the wire away from the ground, (which will collapse the primary current into the secondary) you should see a spark at the plugs if it is a wasted spark system or at one of the plugs if it is not a wasted spark system. If you have current to both sides of the primary of a two part coil both plugs should get a spark whether wasted spark system or not as you are energizing both sides of the primary and collapsing both into both secondaries at the same time when you remove the ground wire from the cylinder head ground.

WHAT IS THE SPARK PLUG ORDER FOR A KAWASAKI NINJA 900 1985

Left coil feeds 1 and 4...right coil feeds 2 and 3...as long as you stick to this it doesn't matter which lead goes to which plug. Left coil will have one short lead and one long...short =1...long = 4. Right coil leads will be about even in length...doesn't matter which goes to 2 or 3.
It's a wasted spark system so plugs 1 and 4 fire together...2 and 3 fire together...only 1 cylinder in each pair will be compressed and ready to fire when the spark happens, the other will be empty and coming on to it's inlet stroke...

Coil not firing on one side harley road king

Hi Anonymous, on twin cams make sure both spark plugs are in heads and use a grounded third plug to check for spark or hold spark plug cable close to spark plug in head. If still not getting spark the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Battery voltage below 8.7 volts, loose or broken battery cables especially ground cable to frame.
3. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting / leaking, spark plug cable connections loose.
5. Faulty ignition coil or ignition / electronic module
6. Failed CKP, CMP, MAP or BAS sensor.
7. Faulty ignition switch.
Good luck

Ignition mystery! 1994 GMC Suburban 2500 5.7 mtr. No spark to spark plugs. Have spark from coil to distributor. Have changed coil wire, cap, rotor, ignition module, and coil. have 12.5 volts going to...

I guess you could have the ignition analyzed on an oscilloscope. Maybe a tech could see something then.
I always heard the only gap was the spark plug gap-the rotor has no gap-are you sure you got the correct rotor? And does it touch the top distributor cap coil wire tower?

Let us know. It is a mystery worthy of a solution.

Not firing on number 3 cyclinder

You have two coils. Each operates two cylinders in what is called the wasted spark system. The plug fires on the compression and the exhaust stroke. If the spark plug is wet you have either a shorting wire , a bad spark plug cap , or a fouled spark plug. Try replacing the spark plug cap and spark plug.
If you still have spark on that cylinder and the plug is dry. You have a bad needle in the carburetor, a stuck float, or dirt causing the no fuel issue. You will have to clean and inspect the number three carburetor .
