Engine runs on choke but dies without?Special tool to adjust hi /lo carb settings?


Your main jet in carburetor is fouled and needs to be cleaned out. The choke circuit bypasses it but when you remove the choke the gas is supposed to go into engine via the main. If clogged, the engine will quit for lack of fuel.

Either clean the carb and jet or replace carb. And yes, newer carbs have basically non a adjustable jets which is ridiculous since each engine is unique and has to be properly matched to new carb. Way around this is by either buying the special tool (he-- with them) or using a dremel tool to cut into head of adjuster a slot so that you can use a regular flat blade screw driver to adjust.

basic settings for this saw would be one turn out on both screws, these are base settings so fine adjustment would have to be done, it it will not run at these settings there is somthing else wrong with it.

Pulsa-jet adjustable carb I need a diagram


I'm not able to post a diagram,but I can give you some info-you'll need to-replace the rubber diaphram/gasket if it hasn't been replaced in the last 2 years remove the hi &lo speed needles,give it a cleaning with spray carb cleaner,put it back together,start with needles 1& 1/4to 1 1/2 turns out.it's a basic,simply designed carb.Ah for the good old days!Find a chiltons small engine repair manual for a diagram

32 cc weedwaker mod#358791072 starts fine, will run at idel for warm up, dies when you give it gas or start it with choke in run position.


If you only have one jet screw adjust the "H" Jet screw on the carb. Make minor adjustments of less than 1/8th turn. Test engine acceleration after each adjustment.
If you have 2 Jet screws "L" and "H" only adjust the "L" screw.
On the 2 jet carb the "H" screw is adjusted for ideal top engine RPM / Max speed.
The goal is to elimate engine hesitation / stall as you grip the throttle quickly by adjusting the "L" jet screw..

I have a 38cc champion chainsaw. The hi, lo and idle settings are all wronge so i cant get working correctly. Could you please tell me how to get the wright settings for it? cheers Nick


Hi Nick and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly

If your starting from scratch do this:
1. First off completely remove the jets one at a time and inspect for a point on the end of the jet. If one of the points is missing it is stuck in the body of the carb and will have to be removed. (I have had to replace carbs because of this due to the fact the piont proke off in the body and could not get the broken piece out of the carb body)
2. Re install each jet and screw it in until it reaches the closed position until they just stop moving DO NOT over tighten.
3. Open each jet 1.5 turns from closed
4. Start the chain saw and accelerate to max speed
5. Adjust the high jet so that under no load it no longer sputters / misses
6. Let unit return to idle
7. As soon as it reaches idle accerate to full throttle again
a. Repeat the return to idle and accelerate process and adjust the low jet setting so that the chainsaw does not hesitate when you rapidly accelerate the engine.
8. Adjust the idle speed so that the chain saw idles but does not rotate the chain.

That is pretty much 2 jet / 2 cycle carb adjustment 101.

Make sure you have the air filter installed when making final adjustments as air filters can cause it to perform differently when installed vs removed especially if the filter is not clean.

Make MINOR 1/8 th turn or less adjustments as your going through the adjustment process!

Honda shadow 1100 will not idel unless choke is all the way on


Okay, let me see if I can help you out...it may not be the jets in the carburetor. Hondas, like most other street bikes, have an idle adjust screw on the carburetor. Most times, you can adjust that screw to get your idle at 1000rpm, which is the norm for idle speed.

The screw is not hard to identify; the easiest way is to first, take the air cleaner and intake off. Then watch the carburetor throttle linkage while you twist the throttle. You will see where the throttle cable connects to the carb and there will be a spring-loaded screw right there. Turning that screw adjusts the static (idle) position of the throttle plate; turn the screw so the plate moves in the same direction the throttle cable pulls it.

I'm willing to bet that adjusting this screw will get your idle back to normal. If it doesn't, come back here and let me know; I will then lead you through a procedure to fix the carburetor. Cheers!

Have a suzuki 900 rf 900 when you give it gas it bogs down then picks back up and runs good have checked the carbs and intakes look fine


Sounds like a lean condition. Particularly a transition from a lesser jet to the main jet in the carbs.
Depending on how severe the problem is it could be as simple as adjusting the the main jet needles and synchronizing the carbs and richening up the idle air screw a bit.
Remember that all general service basics should be checked before adjusting carbs. Valve clearence, spark plugs, air filter, cam chain tension, etc. should all be checked/ adjusted/ serviced/ replaced before adjusting a carb.

2007 ttr 125 wont start unless hand is over the back of carb. also wont idle.At mid and high range it runs fine. There are no air leaks and no adjustment screw for the air/idle just a factory plug.


Time for carb cleaning, blow the jets with compressed air and check the fuel level in the float chamber, adjust if necessary.
Tht factory plug is where the air-mixture screw is and tht plug has been kept there for non tampering!
That screw is factory set.
Basically its the primary jet which is a problem in your bike's carb, but all in all might as well blow both of them.

I am rebuilding the carbs. each carb has three jets that all interchange with each other. The main jets were #70 but the manual says they should be #13.5. What I need to know is a) what jets go where?...


Both carbs have the same jets and should be the same .Now the main jet will have the biggest hole in it ,the compensator jet will have the medium size hole the other jet will be the idle jet so it will have the smallest hole .Now i havent seen one of these carbs but the main jet should be the one that has a passage that runs directly into venturi and the compensating jet should be in the same body/housing and in the base of this housing is another jet /restrictor where the petrol comes in .The mixture is only adjustable on idle by means of the air screw ,which is normally adjusted to one and a half turns out but dont overtighten it before unscrewing it ,then it can be be adjusted in or out a bit for the best evan idle ,but officially its supposed to be less than 2.0 CO2 but they do get checked on the inspection here in in spain
