Question about Power Motorcycles

When I turn key on I have head light but no instrument lights and it won't turnover

Just bought it last year,I had to wiggle the key a little to get the instrument(tach) lite to come on and then it would start and run fine. I put new battery in this week turned key and couldn't get tach lt to lite at all and bike wouldn't start.I replaced key switch seemed fine, bike started, tach lt was on, but the neutral indicator light(green-N)was going on and off intermitently with the moving of handle bars, and when I rev'd it up and the green lt happened to be on it ran great but when the lt went out it backfired and lost power at high rpm but idled fine.so I shut off and now I;m back to square one -no tach lt and wont start. I would suggest you check the wiring loom around the headstock as you were able to cause symptoms when moving the handlebars. You may have a broken wire inside the loom so you will have to open it to inspect it.

SOURCE: 1998 Honda Goldwing will not start nothing.

Sort of sounds like a Twilight Zone kind of problem doesn't it. I would have the battery checked for an internal dead short. This is something that happens on odd occasions and can happen even to a new battery. Yea, the little lights will work ( they do not draw much juice ), but the starter motor draws a lot of juice and a shorted battery just ain't got it. Also check the wiring harness connections. One loose connection can cause bunches of trouble.

SOURCE: no power when going into 2nd gear or higher

Forget the wiring. The key thing here is probably the painted gas tank. In all likelihood there was some trash that got into the tank related to the paint job. Do this > Carefully remove the water trap bowl from the petcock, (gas valve), and look inside the bowl. It may have some water in the bottom and some trash on top. Clean the bowl. Next, remove the petcock and clean it as well. Drain the carbs. Turn the gas on and wait a minute for the float bowls to fill.

Give it a try. It may be that the gas from the tank is restricted and can't refill the floats as fast as the engine needs. A second thought is the exhaust pipe. The bike will not run well if the exhaust is partly plugged up. Disconnect the exhaust and tick off the neighbors by going around the block without a muffler. The inside of the muffler may have collapsed when the welding was done.

Between the two solutions I think the exhaust is the more likely.
Please rate this solution as " FixYa " if you go riding tomorrow.

SOURCE: 92 FXR bike will not start or even turn over

that clicking sound is the starter solenoid. check all large cables for corrosion and tightness. as for the signal lights, neutral and horn, i think a wire is grounding , thus causing the problem with the bike not starting also. check at ignition switch and at handle controls for a loose wire that may be touching the handlebar. basically inspect all the wiring on the bike

SOURCE: Ignition lights go on and the battery is good, bike won't start

corrosion in the starter switch housing. pull it apart and use wire tooth brush or steel wool to clean the connector, should work fine after that.

Lift the tank. Underneath it you'll find a plastic connector block joining loads of wires together. Turn the ignition on and push this connector block together, or twist it around a bit. If the ignition sequence starts, it'll be because the wires in the connector block are corroded. Moving the block sometimes makes a temporary fix, but ultimately it'll happen again until the block or the wiring harness ideally, is replaced.

I have a 2000 flh that i turn to fuel up and then it wouldn't start. It has power to instrument panel and brake light,it will not even crank

Hi, Sam and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Bank angle sensor tripped and ignition/light key switch not cycled to the "OFF" position and then back to the "ON" position.
5. Faulty starter button/switch.
6. Faulty jiffy stand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
7. Security alarm needs a reset.
8. Starter control circuit, relay, fuse, or solenoid faulty.
9. Electric starter shaft pinion gear is not engaging or over-running starter clutch slipping.

When I turn the key to turn the car on everything goes out no turnover nothing lights go out an all. What is usually the cause of this?

You post no info at all about year, model or anything useful. I would suggest you check your battery. Especially if it is near 7 years old. With the little info you gave here, this is the best solution I can give you.

Won't turnover occasional click

suspect battery problems. THe positive terminal developes a hard black coating inside the lead terminal and around the battery post Remove this using rough sand papaer to a shiny finish on both units . Repeat the operation on the negative terminal. Try the starter again. If still nothing turn on the head lights try again noticing if the head lights go dim. IF they do check if the battery is charged OK then you have a problem in the starter motor IF it works some times and not at others you probably have a dead bar on the communator which means a replacement s-motor

Kubota B3300SU. Tractor was running, I got off to adjust a rope and tractor shut off. Now the lights come on as usual before starting but the engine does not turn over. Head light come on etc. only 20...

Let's try the obvious first, the safeties. I now I sometimes forget to turn off the PTO or forget to put the clutch down and my tractor won't start.
You may have hit a lever with your body climbing off the tractor and this is causing the problem. Check all the levers to see if they are in the correct position for starting.

Turn off the PTO (attachment drive) sit on the seat, put the tractor in Neutral, push down on the clutch. Please read the manual section on starting the tractor.
Wiggle the transmission lever (or foot control) when you have the key in the start position. Sometimes the "neutral" position is a little bit off.
Let me now if this fixed it and if it doesn't we can continue this conversation.

When you turn the key, do all of the little lights on the tach light up and stay lit before you try the starter ? I ask because my key-switch has become a little fickle this year. Sometimes when I turn the key, I can hear the electronics going through the pre-start sequence, but, only one little light on the tach comes on, and then I know that it's gonna act up a little. When that occurs, the engine will crank but will not start. Have to turn back the key and do a little jiggle and wiggle of the key on the tumblers while turning the key to get everything working

1991 300d 6cly turbo no instrument lights

I would first check the fuses in the engine compartment and repair / update if necessary. Also, this model is notorious for have solder connectons being burned open behind the instrument pnl. Carefully remove the instrument paneland verify connections and/or repair them.
