My 2002 Buick rendezvous has trouble shifting out of park. Not all the time but is becoming more frequent. if I wait long enough then will shift fine.


Do you mean that the gear shifter wont move or when you shift from park to drive, the car takes a while to move? If it takes a while to move then you need to check the transmission fluid level. This is done on a level surface with the engine and transmission hot and running. If the fluid is fine then you are looking at a transmission problem with either the pump of the clutches and it could be thousands of dollars to repair.

2000 ford mercury 3.0, shifter wont move. had a fender bender, put it into park and it wouldn't come back out.



For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

My 2000 Volkswagen Jetta manual shift gets tough when car is warmed up


you need a new clutch kit and make sure gear oil in level may need refresh and inspect and grease shifter linkage for smother shifting you can update with 42 dizayn's linkage kit for vw it is works great.

Need to know more.
For example, do you mean the shifter pedal will not move, does it grind, can you do it with engine off, etc.?
The reason is because a clutch problem is far more likely.
And is verified if you can shift when engine is off.
But how is the fluid level?
How is the clutch pressure?

If it really is the shifter, it can be hard to fix.
The pedal rotates a series of ramps that move actual shift forks back and forth.
Then there are the actual synchronizer rings, etc.
And then it could be the bearings the gears ride on, essentially causing 2 gears at once if a bearing locks up.

But assume it is the simple stuff first.

It is either the shifter cable or maybe the shifter linkage came undone..

Once in Drive, Jeep does not easily shift back to Park


Try to check the trans mission gears of your 1995 jeep grand cherokee.The shift fork and the clutch sleeve of the trans mission is locking to the other gears .And then also check the starter motor and its solenoid.if the starter motor solenoid is destroyed or worn out replace .

Hello,

The shifter problem is likely related to worn nylon bushings on the shifter or a broken shifter quadrant (the PRNDL). You will need to disassemble the center console in order to pin down the problem. Procedure is found in the shop manual.

The shifter problem and the gear shift hesitation are likely NOT related. Usually, a delay in shifting is due to being low on automatic transmission fluid. Check your fluid with the engine running, and warm, car in PARK (be sure the parking brake is on for safety's sake.)

The transmission fluid dip stick has a red pull top and is at the rear of the engine. With a clean rag or paper towel, clean any fluid or dirt from the bottom of the stick and reinsert it into the tube. Pull the dip stick out the second time and note the fluid level. If it's between the top and bottom marks, it's OK UNLESS:

1) There is no fluid indicated: Add sufficient Dexron III or Dextron IV to bring the fluid to the correct level. (Remember that the dfistance betweeen the marks is in PINTS, not quarts like the oil.) Do not overfill the transmission.

2) Fluid should be ruby red in color and have a neutral "oily" smell. If the fluid has a slight yellowish color or smells "burned", you may have internal damage in the transmission. Best thing to do in this case is to have the transmission fluid and filter changed and proceed from there on your trouble shooting.

If there is a delay(like 2-3 secs) when you shift from neutral to drive...then down to reverse...most likely the transmission is screwed,or on its way out.
Is the Fluid level correct?,and is the fluid red or dark and smelly ?.

Dark and smelly IS NOT A GOOD SIGN.--means the fluid has been overheating ...

Having trouble shifting gears wont go into reverse actual shifter won;t physically move into the reverse position so Ican't even find out if I still have reverse


You need to get to the transmission linkages with some penetrating spray, right where they are attached to transmission at front drivers side. You may have to remove battery & tray to get better access, but 90% of time that's the problem area. You'll see where the shifter linkages attach & pivot on top. The top linkage is your power valve,(like a kickdown) which kicks it down on acceleration, then returns after. This needs to move freely, and it may take some work & spray to get it loosened up, but that should help with your problem, as it affects the shifter itself too. After you get them movong freely, put a good coat of white lithium grease or similar on them . On my 95 neon, i'd have to do it, about once a year or more. Initially it would shift out of lower gear to next at higher revs, and when stopping it would shift down hard. Good Luck
