Its making a poping noise out the exhaust and it cuts back when i give it gas

Hi, Anonymous popping or backfire on deceleration is usually caused by a lean fuel condition or an air leak in the exhaust system and is generally located where black carbon soot is seen as a flashing build up from any joint connection. This condition can easily be remedied by removing and cleaning both joint pieces and reassembling with high temp silicone and torquing the exhaust clamp to the proper spec. Coughing is usually caused by an air leak in the intake system and will generally have the same telltale signs of location by a wet or damp buildup of oil/gas seepage at the intake manifold to cylinder head or carburetor connection and in rare instances a worn throttle plate shaft and or seals. Spitting is usually caused by a faulty accelerator pump and or nozzle, or the float bowl needle and seat leaking and overflowing through the main jet mixing well nozzle, or the air-fuel mixture screw is adjusted too lean. Backfires on acceleration

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
2. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Faulty main circuit breaker and or connections.
4. Faulty ignition coil and or connections.
5. Faulty spark plug, oil or gas fouled, wrong heat range or service type, wrong gap, loose in the cylinder head, broken electrode or insulator.
6. Faulty spark plug cables, leaking or broken, internal damage.
7. Faulty ignition module, switch, CKP, MAP, CMP, sensor and or any connector in the ignition circuit could have corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets
8. Burnt exhaust valve or air leak in the exhaust system.

Popping and backfires when decellerating

The primary cause for backfiring on deceleration is an air leak - if the baffles have been removed or modified or if the gaskets in the exhaust tract are not sealing properly, fresh air can be introduced into the exhaust stream causing a pop or backfire. Check your exhaust system - especially if you have recently had an oil change, since the pipe has to be removed to change the oil filter on this model.

Just bought a 2004 honda spirit 1100,has 65 roedhouse exhaust, dont like the way it backfires when you let off the throttle, whats the fix?

The carburetors have air cut valves that should minimize popping. A lot of backfiring is caused by air leaking past bad gaskets. Try replacing the copper o-ring style crush gaskets where the pipe goes into the head. If the pipes are two piece replace the gaskets where the head pipe meets the muffler ( or make some using fiberglass cloth).

My Honda VTX 1300 backfires when I close the throttle or when I shift down. What should I do. It sounds like a gun shot

Your bike is running lean (too much air and not enough fuel). What, if any, modifications have you done to the bike? If you changed the exhaust out for louder pipes, you need to adjust the f/a (fuel/air) mixture in the carburetor to compensate for more air going through the bike. Let me know here if you have made any type of mods to the bike.
