Question about 1999 Yamaha YZF-R1

My bikes lost power, i can clearly hear it breaking down in any gear when i give it a bit. its running on fresh premium fuel, the exup is working fine, its got me stuffed.

Take out the plugs and "read"them,this will instantly tell you wether it's a lean or rich misfire,beyond that look at the gaps,use a snap on or similar timing light that reads out igniton voltage,then look at moving parts that wear such as TPS sensor,it may have codes that can be read by a scan tool

Test or replace the spark plugs, and test the HT plug cables the resistance often goes high causing a week spark.

Motorcycle won t start

did you check compression ? when on sand do you clean the airfilter often and oil smear it all over, check crank seals and valves , te510 is that 2 or 4 stroke ? have you checked timing ? and a Good bike mechanic should be able to work on any type of bike with this problem !

Boggy starting off, runs great at hwy speeds, runs on slightly after a long run, smells bad when shut down and smell fuel when shuts down sometimes. Seams to have started after using premium fuel. had...

Could still have a carb problem. Have you changed the fuel filter? That is always the first thing to do. Running on could also indicate a timing problem. How about the timing belts? have the been looked at lately? They may be stretch a bit or loose. Should not have to use premium in a Goldwing.

Exup valve is killing engine power

Hi, Ctyler009 exup valve is absolutely your problep for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem. Bike has been sitting without being started this winter. is it ok to start or better to have it picked up and serviced

There is no reason why it cannot be started, although you may have a bit of a difficulty doing this. As a precaution replace all the gas with fresh gas and try clear the carb/injector.

2002 mini, not driven for 2 years, of course battery dead, fit a new battery solve everything?, car has alarm, computer, does this make the problem more complex?

Oh hey bro, did he drain the gas or run it dry? Make what worse? What happening to it? Hold up a sec there partner tell me what isn't working? It will probably need a new tank of fresh fuel. The old stuff can evaporate and leave varnish behind but it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Run its first tank with injector cleaner and premium fuel. The wheel bearings can seize a bit too. Best thing to do is to get it going, then take it for a spin. It's gonna creek and scrape when you are breaking nd driving but it'll pass after a bit. Cheers

Check the plug. I have had a very similar problem just recentley yesterday infact. It could be that you are running the oil mixture too rich as well...Good luck

2002 Dyna wide glide. Will not IDLE

not running for a year! You have a varnish buildup in the low end circuit of the carb. You will need to remove the carb and do a full teardown of the carb to properly rectify this problem. SOMETIMES we are able to free up the passages by putting SEA FOAM cleaner in the tank , fill her up with fresh fuel and ride through the tank and it will clear up. SEA FOAM can be purchased at an auto parts store and is sometimes very effective. 1/4 cup to full tank fuel.

Thrid gear in my yz 250 2001 seems to be slipping

For confirmation of a broken third gear tooth, drive slowly and shift up to third gear. Give the throttle a gentle rotation to slowly speed up. Listen for clunking sounds from the gearbox. If you hear it then you know there is a broken tooth. ALWAYS replace the gears in sets. If enough pressure was on a gear to break of a tooth then the same pressure was on the gear it was engaged into. Yes, only one of the two gears is missing a tooth but the other gear has a cracked tooth just ready to break as soon as you button up the engine after replacing only the toothless gear.

I am a bit removed from the cost of todays repairs so I suggest you give a call to your local dealer. If I had to guess, I would say about $600.00. Sorry for the bad news.

Yamaha 2001 r1 been stood for 2 yrs ;got back on road ;rev needle keeps going from 0 rpm~~7000rpm all the time;bikes runs but must of lost half the power of the bike ????

Got this from my copy of the Yamaha workshop manual for this model

The YZF-R1 features a self-diagnosing system for the following circuits:
1. throttle position sensor
3. fuel level indicator light
if any of these circuits are defective their respective condition codes will be displayed on the tachometer when the main switch is set to "ON" (irrespective of whether the engine is running or not)

1. throttle position sensor a) Disconnected b) Short-circuit c) Locked 0 - 3,000rpm
2. EXUP a) Improper connection b) Short-circuit c) Servomotor is locked 0 - 7,000rpm
3. Fuel level indicator light a) Improper connection 0 - 8,000rpm

It looks like you have a problem with the EXUP Valve on yours, probably seized or maybe cables not moving freely
