I have a 1200 sportster 1200 carborated evo and the speedo quit working . Do I need to replace the ecm or is there a fuse for it????

Hi Anonymous, try cleaning your speed sensor located on top of the transmissions right side between the top cover and the chrome starter end cap on Twin Cams and on top of the engine case between the rear cylinder and the starter motor for Sportsters. Remove the the bolt that secures the sensor and pull it out of the transmission. Inspect sensor for obvious damage and repace if necessary. If sensor has no damage then wipe clean any obvious contamination like micro fiberous material with a clean rag and reinstall, torque bolt to 8 ft lbs. I have a 1200 sportster i have no power to my odometer the lights on it dont work its not showing the milage and the fuses have been replaced what should i do?

It could be the vehicle speed sensor, the ECM or the TSM/TSSM.

The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is powered and monitored
by the Electronic Control Module (ECM). The ECM processes
the vehicle speed signal and transmits this signal to the turn
signal module/turn signal security module (TSM/TSSM) and
speedometer through serial data.
NOTE
The vehicle speed sensor cannot be repaired. Replace the
unit if it fails.

Hi Elfking3_a, always check your instrument fuse before performing the next procedure, try cleaning your speed sensor located on top of the transmissions right side between the top cover and the chrome starter end cap on Twin Cams and on top of the engine case between the rear cylinder and the starter motor for Sportsters. Next check the connector to the speedometer for correded, broken or loose pins/sockets. If your problems still exist try replacing your ignition relay if your year and model has one. Good luck and have nice day.

Wondering if anyone knows where the adjuster for the carburetor is located on a 2001 1200 Sportster custom

Unless the carburetor has been modified, the only adjustment is the idle speed. The Idle Stop screw is located at the upper right side of the carb. You may have to remove the air cleaner cover to access the screw. Clockwise rotation increases the idle speed. Adjust the idle speed with the engine at full operating temperature.

Have you had your front wheel off at any time?

Directional lights & speedo not working

This could be caused by a number of things. First check your fuses to assure you do not have a blown fuse. If not you may need to have your speed sensor checked. If this sensor goes bad or signal is interupted in some way you will have the symptoms you describe
