Question about Honda VT 750 Shadow Motorcycles

I have a 83 honda vt750, My problem is it has a hard time starting. It will turn and turn for up to a min before it starts, once it does it runs just fine. Also it has a new battery. Thanks

My guess is the starting fuel system is not working right.
There may be a "block" temperature sensor that is critical for the starting circuit. On a car, I found corroded connections to this temp sensor. I cleaned and scraped to bright metal. cleared codes. not sure you have an ECU but anyway it started immediately, whereas before it had a delayed and extremely rough start.

    I'll look into that, and I've checked the fuel pump to make sure it was putting gas out on ignition and it was. I have a Haynes manual but it hasn't been much help in this particularly odd situation.

My guess would be that the choke isn't working, assuming you're using it for cold starts. Check that the cable isn't broken or disconnected and that it moves at the carbs when you move the lever. There's no block temp sensor or ECU, this is a simple system.

Hi, James please disregard the carburetor parts I hope your Holley pump has the same specs as OEM otherwise that could be an issue and the usual suspects are:
1. Spark plugs in bad condition or partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition and leaking.
3. Spark plug gap too close or too wide.
4. Faulty ignition coil, module, and or sensor.
5. Battery nearly discharged.
6. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
7. Intake air leak.
8. Water, dirt, or rust in the fuel system, carburetor and/or filter.
9. Fuel tank vent system plugged or carburetor vent line closed off.
10. Carburetor controls misadjusted.
11. Damaged carburetor.
12. Loose, dirty, or corroded ignition module connector at crankcase.
13. Faulty MAP, CKP, O2, and/or CMP sensors.
14. Incorrect valve timing.
15. Weak or broken valve springs.
16. Damaged intake or exhaust valve.

I have a 1998 Honda shadow vt750. I keep blowing a fuse. Any suggestions on what i should check?

If it is the main fuse, check blinker relay. ( take it of, try to start the bike )

83 shadow starts on one cylinder

you may want to go and have your coils looked at. the first thing you should do though is pull the plugs and see what shape they are in. the plugs will tell you everything about your engine and what it is doing and when. if your plugs are good then go have your coils inspected. do not try this yourself if you do not know what you are doing. there is a very high chance of very high electrical discharge to you. it may even kill you if it hits right.

2002 vt750 running lights go on and off

There is probably a loose / dirty connection somewhere on the bike. Remove the seat and gas tank to gain access to the wiring harness. Get a volt Ohmmeter as you may need to check for voltage and continuity at some point. Start at the battery, then fuses and the wires connecting to the fuses. Inspect for burned wires, abraded wires, loose and/or dirty connections, bad connectors and loose wires. This means the mass of wires inside the headlight must also be inspected. Check the light switch. Go all the way to the ignition system. Check the key switch. Put it on "run" and check for power through the switch as you jiggle the wires. Find the bad connection and you should be able to fix it.

Make sure the fan dosen't come on at too low a temperature keeping the engine too cool.
