Depends on how you ride it mate, and how many miles, I personally say 3k it too soon, oils of today are amazing, my jag is every 12 month, my Hayabusa 2 times a year.let it warm up, and let it idle for a few mins after a long run.

What type of oil does 1997 Suzuki VS 800 take

Depends on the driving.
If you live where it is really cold ( it gets down to O degrees Fahrenheit), you should probably use a 5W-20.
If the lowest temperature you drive in is 32 degrees, 5W-30.
If you drive in above 50 degrees, you could use 10W-30.
These "weights" ( viscosities ) are standard for most gasoline vehicles.

How often do you change the oil on a 2002 Suzuki vs 800 intruder

Hi, it all depends on the type of riding you do. Mr Suzuki advises 4,000 miles between oil changes. This is OK if you do a lot of miles every time you ride. If you do a lot of short journey's then you need to to do more frequent oil changes. I normally do an oil change every 2,000 to 2,500 miles as I do a lot of short trips. One of my bikes has no cam shaft bearings and I do an oil change every 1,000 to 1,500 miles regardless.

Hope this helps.

What kind and how many quarts of oil for my 1998 intruder 800

If changing the oil and filter it will take 3 qts. Changing just the oil will take 2.5 qts. Use SAE 10/40, API SF or SG. John

Manufacturer recommends "Suzuki Performance 4 Motor Oil" Any SF or SG rated oil under the API service classification will suffice. 10W-40 is the recommended viscosity.

If you can not get 10W-40, the following are acceptable:

14 to 104 degrees F 20W-50
0 to 104 degrees F 15W-40 or 15W-50
-4 to 104 degrees F 10W-40 or 10W-50
-4 to 86 degrees F 10W-30

Temperatures indicate ambient air temperatures operated in.

What is the oil capacity in the crankcase of a 1993 800cc intruder. How much do you fill it too? I stuck my finger in and got no oil and there is no measure dip to tell.

holds 3 us quarts of oil with a oil filter change or if the egine was complety drained after overhaul it takes 3 1/2 us quarts of oil.
To check oil look for a small quarter size window on the clutch case, oil level should fill half the window to be full.Bike must be held level while viewing window, not on kick stand.

Crankcase capacity on 2002 Suzuki VS 800 Intruder.(oil + filter change) Should I use 10w-30 Synthetic?

Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic lubricants, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell. If in a hot area like Texas or New Mexico go with 20w50.
I don't have a service manual on your particular bike so just check oil quantity with the dealer when you go to buy the new oil filter. Don't forget to lube the cables and chain when doing the oil change.
