My sons taotao 125 will not start i thought the carb was bad put a new one on and it turns over and spits and pops.

have you checked your air filter. If its dirty wash out with air filter cleaner or petrol and replace.

As far as your clutch adjustment ,I can't help you but the fact that the bike is older you might want to try removing the exhaust pipe at the baffel end and see if there is a difference in power ,if there is clean out your baffel and your good to go. hope this helps

Take the carburetor apart again, remove the main and idle jets and idle mix screw, plus the float and needle valve. The main jet holds an 'emulsion tube' in--look inside where the slide valve moves, you should see a short brass tube projecting out of the bottom. Carefully push down on that tube with a plastic rod or wooden dowel, it should drop out the hole where the main jet was. Chances are that the tube is dirty and needs to be cleaned--look carefully at the series of small holes drilled into the sides of the tube. These small holes deliver air which is mixed into the fuel passed through the main jet. That air comes from a small hole just inside the intake side of the carburetor. The long needle that sticks out of the slide bottom controls low to mid-range speed fuel-mixture. Check that the 'C' clip on the top end of the needle is in the center groove and that the retainer spring is pressed down the 'C' clip. Now soak the whole carburetor with spray cleaner, then blow out all passages with compressed air. Don't soak the rubber-tipped needle valve from under the float. On reassembly, set the idle mix screw 1-1/2 to 2 turns CCW from CW stop. Adjust for best idle after you get it running and warmed up. I hope this long winded explanation helps!

When I recently ordered parts from Saber Cycle, they included a piece of information that pertained to my motorcycle, which is also a 1983 Honda Goldwing GL1100 Interstate. Here is what it says, I hope this helps:

Air Cut-Off Valve

The air cut-off valve is an extremely important part of the fuel/air intake system that is frequently missed even my competent mechanics, most of whom are not even aware of its existence or how it functions.

Every GL1000 has one, located in the air intake tube, between the air cleaner box and the manifold. Every GL1100 has four, located in the top air intake passage of each carburetor, and every GL1200 has one located in the plenum box below the air cleaner box similar to the GL1000.

These valves are "air blockers", along with the carburetor o-rings, serving to restrict air flow and increase the fuel/air mixture ratio when the carb slides are in the lower RPM range, up to closed so that the machine will start and idle smoothly with virtually no choking and accelerate rapidly, with no stumble or hesitation.

When typical starting requires heavy and prolonged choking to keep the bike running, when stalling and hesitation occurs even while "warmed up" and when backfiring pops while the throttle is shut off while cruising, most people will start fooling with the air screws to try to overcome the problem, only making it worse along with reducing their gas mileage.

Running with dysfunctional air cut-off valves can causes severe engine damage or failure. When the valves are dysfunctional, the engine pulls nearly total air in the low RPM range through the carbs and on to the combustion chamber. The fuel/air ratio is extremely poor with pre-ignition long before the normal 38 to 40 degree firing point, generating an enormous amount of heat, with no power, which is trapped a longer period of time in the cylinder before the exhaust valve opens.

This heat goes mostly up through the cylinder head, gradually incinerating the head gaskets and allowing engine coolant (anti-freeze) to seep into the engine. You can easily spot when you are in trouble by a puff of bluish-white or white smoke on first starting the engine. Don't leave it alone. Change head gaskets immediately or you could take out your bottom end bearings, ruining the engine.

For those of you installing new exhaust systems, you will discolor your headpipes, either blue (lean state) or gold (rich state). You can destain your pipes using "blueaway" or "blue-off" but be careful not to rub the chrome, just dab gently.k These compounds are usually purchased at a Harley dealer or Harley oriented aftermarket shop.

Honda genuine pipes, like many Yamaha pipes, have a double wall for a portion of the headpipe which masks this discoloration-but also masks a bad state of tune. Even if your pipes are original and still in good shape, don't think that you are OK if the bike has any or all of the dysfunctional air cut-off valve running and performance characteristics.

If your 1975 to 1987 Gold Wing is not getting 50-58 miles per gallon (20-23 KM/Liter), you have one of the most obvious signs of trouble. It is likely your air screws have been backed out to try overcome the effects of the poor running, stumbling, starting and stalling and quitting.

Resynchronize all four carbs to the #3 carb vacuum level using mercury carb sticks or vacuum dial gauges. Stay with strict use of the setting levels in either the Honda, Clymer or Haynes manuals. Do not attempt to tune any other way! Guessing will not work and can cause considerable engine damage!!!

A rebuild kit on a 2004? Why was that needed?
I would do a compression test to verify that the ring, and valves are working for you. Should be above 100 psi. (Throttle open while kicking it over) This may help get you started toward a fix.

Hello my cpi Aragon GP 125. Model 2012 when been on a run sometimes the carb spits petrol back through the air filter.l have to disconnect the air filter to empty it, then it will start again.??


Hi, Bryan spitting is usually caused by a faulty accelerator pump and or nozzle, or the float bowl needle and seat leaking and overflowing through the main jet mixing well nozzle, or the air-fuel mixture screw is set to lean. Generator back firing from inlet manafold


Your symptoms are from running lean. Foam air filters put debris in carb jets. Check all the carb passageways and jets. Always start with a new plug.

He has learned an expensive lesson on equipment abuse. Rolling backward "slammed" in forward ... probably broke a shaft somewhere. Just as '... there is no crying in baseball' ... there should be no 'slamming' of gears in driving.

50cc taotao scooter the carb is runs then fills with gas untill it stalls out dont get much off the searchs i have made dont no if it is the carb our choke broke down carb and looks clean no clogs or


My 2012 Taotao 49cc scooter was spitting and sputtering then just died one day. I brought to a small engine repair person and come to find out, the hoses that came off the carb had cracks in them. Changed the hoses and the problem went away. Hope this helps.. I have since replaced the cheap hoses with new ones from the auto parts store and never had the problem again.

I have a 2011 Taotao 110 Chinese made 4 wheeler. We bought it in march of 2011 and my son rode it maybe five or six times then it sat in the garage for probably six months. So we decided to get it back out...


Could be ignition, could be compression etc. Lots to check before wasting money on the fluid that has been under the ground for millions of years. Why people think it goes bad, I am not sure!

Popping from pipes and carb


Hi Tommy, popping, coughing, spitting, or backfiring through the carburator or induction module can be caused by air getting sucked in combustion chamber do bad intake seals leaking. Leaking exhaust gaskets can also be suspect. Remove air cleaner and backing plate, while engine is idling spray WD-40 or Brake Kleen around intake manifold to head area, if RPM's increase you have an intake leak and seals need to be replaced, also spark plugs will be burning whiter than normal. Tt-r 125 e carburetor adjustment My son tried to clean the carburetor and set all the jets and screws tight. What do I set which jet at ?


The air screw and throttle screw are the only settings on the carb. Bear in mind they only screw in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward. This is the factory setting. Put the rest of the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.


If the screw adjusters were screwed in tight they will likely need to be replaced. The end of the screws will have a depression ring and that little ring can screw up the carb.

2004 ttr-125 bike won't start period. installed new vavles because the exhaust valve was bent, cleaned the carb and timed the cam and piston to TDC. i have the exhaust pipe off so i can hear the valve...


after trying to start the bike, remove spark plug, is it wet or dry? dry means carb problem, wet ignition problem.gtting firm till half stroke is normal, as compression is increasing. also make sure you didnt set the cam on wrong stroke, like exhaust instead of compression.

Can not start


Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the two screws, ( idle and air screws ), on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.

Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.

Change gearbox oil. 10w40 is what is needed. Also install a new stock NGK spark plug. This process should get you back on the road.
