SOURCE: 1986 yamaha big bear 350 cc will shift up but will

Its most likely to be the external part of the shift mechanism & therefore it would not need the transmission stripped
It is probably just 1 of the springs on the shift claw that is broken - this explains why it only shifts 1 way

SOURCE: my 1986 yamaha xjs 750 is stuck in first gear and i have tryed every thing

On Yahama XJs, there is a plastic part that might break up into pieces. You can fix this with a detail mirror, flashlight and tweezers.

*Take of the clutch cover then peer and probe through the holes inside.
*Look for the pieces of plastic.
*Once you've got them all out the bike should shift again.

I just bought an 1986 FZ 750. I need parts

Just restored a yammy and found wemoto site excellent. Just enter wemoto/yamaha or wemoto.com into search engine and go from there. Secondhand stuff is generally ebay or wrecking depots/warehouses.
Cheers.
