Question about 2006 Harley Davidson FLHRS Road King Custom

What should I check next? Not getting any error codes, replaced the CKP, MAP, IAC, TP, & ET Sensors. Not sure what I should try next, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Bike starts great and after 1 minute the bike starts to sputter from intake and then stops running, if I restart it starts fine again for a minute and starts sputtering again. I filled up and went about 20 miles after the sputtering started.

If no DTC's are recorded, then it is most likely to be a fuel problem. You need to check the fuel pressure with engine running and this requires specialized test equipment. You need a gauge that can connect into the fuel line. Running pressure should be around 55 - 60 PSI. If the bike starts and runs ok for a minute, it is not bad gas. Bad gas is just that, bad gas. It will not burn correctly and the first thing noticed is hard starting. I assume the bike is fuel injection. If it has a carburetor then I would be checking the fuel flow as this symptom sounds like carb is running out of fuel. Dirty gas, fuel with debris in it. The petcock will be vacuum operated and if it has a leak, (on carb models), fuel flow will be affected. Also, the tank vent if blocked will affect fuel flow. Remove the fuel line from the carb, put end into a fuel safe container to stop fuel pouring all over the place generating a fire hazard, apply suction to the vacuum pipe on the rear of the petcock and you should have a good fuel flow. If you don't, then the fuel filter inside the tank on the petcock is blocked or the vacuum part of the petcock is faulty.

Hi Bruce, might have gotten some bad gas. Drain the tank, clean the fuel filter, check the bottom of tank for rust, dirt, water ect. Then ckeck fuel pump pressure, refill tank with a gallon of fresh gas from a different source and take it for a ride. good luck

    agree with above, you could try a bit of fuel stabilizer in case water got in there.

How do I clear the fault codes on a 2012 Harley road glide.


The IM (instrument module) is capable of displaying DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes).
Speedometer Self Diagnostics: The speedometer is capable of displaying and clearing
speedometer, tachometer, TSM/TSSM and ICM/ECM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).
1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.
2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.
3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button. Background lighting
sould illuminate, speedometer needle should sweep its full range
and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and cruise) should
illuminate. The word ?€?diag?€ should then appear.
4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu "PSSPt" with
the first P flashing.
5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The module that is flashing
is the one you are going to check. To move from one letter (module)
to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S to SP to t and back
to P, etc.)
P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module (EFI) / (Ignition Control Module, 'Carbureted')
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer
6 - To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button
in for 5 seconds and release. If there are any DTC?€™s the code will be
displayed or the word ?€?none?€ will appear if there are no DTC?€™s. Push the odometer reset
button again to view additional codes if they exist.
7 - Record the codes.
8 - If DTC?€™s are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button. Part
number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in
and holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up.
Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch. Run your bike and shut it
down then recheck the DTC?€™s again by repeating steps 1 to 9.
If the code is current it will reappear.
9 ?€" Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.
10 ?€" Turn Ignition switch to OFF.

CCM - Cruise Control Module
CKP - Crank Position Sensor. The CKP generates an "AC signal" which is sent to the ECM where it is used to reference engine position (TDC) and speed.
DTC - Diagnostic Trouble Codes
ECM - Electronic Control Module. (The Computer) Computes the spark advance for proper ignition timing and fuel control based on sensor inputs
(from CKP, MAP & TP sensors) and controls the low-voltage circuits for the ignition coils and injectors.
The dwell time for the ignition coil is also calculated in the microprocessor and is dependent upon battery voltage. The programmed dwell feature gives adequate spark at all speeds.
ECT - Engine Coolant Temperature. Sensor also controls the cooling fan relay that provides 12 Vdc to the fans.
EFI - Electronic Fuel Injection
EFP - Electronic Fuel Pump
ET - Engine Temperature sensor
FI - Fuel Injectors
FPR - Fuel Pressure regulator
IAC - Idle Air Control actuator
IAT - Intake Air Temperature sensor
ISS - Ion Sensing System...detonation detection
MAP - manifold Absolute Pressure sensor. The MAP sensor monitors the intake manifold pressure (vacuum) and sends the information to the ECM.
The EMC then adjusts the spark and fuel-timing advance curves for optimum performance.
TP - Throttle Position Sensor
TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
VE - Volume Efficiency
VSS - Vehicle Speed Sensor. Used as an input for idle speed control

Removal & Installation

  1. Remove the idle air control (IAC) electrical connector (1) from the IAC sensor (4).
  2. Remove the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector from the MAP sensor.
  3. Remove the water pump belt cover.
  4. Remove the TP sensor retaining screws electrical connector (2) from the TP sensor (3).
  5. Remove the TP sensor electrical connector (2) from the TP sensor (3).

To install:
  1. Install the new O-ring on to the TP sensor.
  2. Connect the TP Sensor electrical connector (2) to the TP sensor (3).
  3. Install the TP sensor (2) on to the throttle body (1). Tighten the TP sensor screws to 2.3 Nm (20 inch lbs.).
  4. Connect the IAC electrical connector (1) to the IAC sensor (4).
  5. Connect the MAP sensor electrical connector to the MAP sensor.
  6. Install the water pump belt and tensioner cover.
  7. Perform the TP Sensor learn procedure:
  8. Turn the ignition to the RUN/ON position.
  9. Wait 1 minute.
  10. Turn the ignition to the LOCK/OFF position

2004 Grand Pix starting running rough all of the sudden. I tuned it up and replaced the engnition module and it still running rough any suggestions?

To avoid personal injury and/or vehicle damage, refer to the service precautions at the beginning of this section.
General Information The Engine Management System (EMS) uses several different sensors and actuators to gather and control various emissions and driveability aspects of the vehicle. These may include but are not limited to:
  • MAP - Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor
  • BARO - Barometric Pressure Sensor
  • FTP - Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor
  • ECT - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
  • A/F - Air Fuel Ratio Sensor

How do you replace the throttle position sensor


Removal & Installation
  1. Remove the idle air control (IAC) electrical connector (1) from the IAC sensor (4).
  2. Remove the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector from the MAP sensor.
  3. Remove the water pump belt cover.
  4. Remove the TP sensor retaining screws electrical connector (2) from the TP sensor (3).
  5. Remove the TP sensor electrical connector (2) from the TP sensor (3).

Wife's durango is idling rough and running rough


With both codes pointing at TP sensor, I'd certainly take the time to replace it, as well as make sure connections to it are clean, and good. Chances are, you won't be able to take part back anyway. As far as exhaust goes, if it's leaking in the right places in may cause improper readings at sensors downstream, but if not obvious leak, I wouldn't be concentrating in that area right now.
