The centering pin is either broken off or pushed back so the shifter would not return to center. I am not sure if the hole the pin goes into even goes all the way through much less if there is enough room to push it the rest of the way through. I did not find a broken off piece when I took the cover off.
I am sure the pin sheared, that is why the shifter is not center. Push the shifter back to original position so that the hole would line up( using little force) Knock out sheared pin and replace with new one.
