Installed New rotors, calibers and brake pads on the front and back brakes bled the air from the master cylinder and each brake per instructions in the. Haynes manual and the front brakes still lock up what can I do to solve this problem

Sounds like your master cylinder is not working properly, so you may have to replace it as there does not seem to be the correct amount of brake pressure that gets to the rear brakes. Are your rear calipers or brakes seized, to they move freely. Is the parking brake cable seized and causing the rear brakes to not function properly. Lots of thing it could be.

Good! You bled the master cyl. before installation! The proper order of bleeding the lines, is to start with the wheel the greatest distance from the master cylinder. Then work your way to the next greatest distance, and last, the closest wheel. Make sure all air is removed from the lines before you proceed to the next wheel, and frequently check the master cyl. level, because, as I'm sure you know, if you **** in air at the master, you have to start all over again. I'm assuming you don't have a power bleeder, so with a helper do this with car running (make sure it's on safety stands and not going to fall on you!) Pump pedal 3 times, no need to mash the pedal into the floor, just 3 pumps 1/2 way down, hold 3rd pump at half way down level while bleeder is opened, when flow is about to stop at bleeder, close bleeder and repeat til no evidence of any air. Let me know how it goes and if you need any help.

SOURCE: Front brakes lock up causing hot and smoking front brakes.

This sounds like the master cylinder isnt releasing pressure I would change master cylinder.

So long as the brake booster is working, test it by turning on the engine, press the brake pedal all the way down, then shut off engine keeping your foot on the brake pedal, if the pedal comes up slightly pushing against your foot then the booster IS working.

Did you BLEED the brakes??????

SOURCE: Brakes are still spongy after changing the pads, one caliper, and master cylinder. bled front brakes.

I just went to Brake Masters this morning and had them replace the Master Cylinder since I was experiencing the pedal very spongy and going to the floor. When they replaced the Master Cylinder and they gave me back the car, the brakes were still spongy and going to the floor. I addressed this to them and they took another look at it, but when I took it for a second time, the brakes were extremely spongy. It was almost like they gave me back my car in worst condition to when I brought it in. Can you help?

Hello Patricia,

Have you checked the master brake cylinder reservoir for brake fluid loss?

I don't suspect the master cylinder as you have replaced it... but am more suspect of a leaking brake line or fitting which should have
been discovered when you had the system bled.

The only time I ever had a rear brake problem with a 2500 series Chevrolet was due to seized rear brake caliper guide pins...as your calipers are also new that is not your problem.

If your brake pedal feels spongy and travels to the floor board you have air in the system, a brake fluid leak or a failure in the power steering system, such as a broken hose, broken power steering pump drive belt, or failed pump, would result in a loss of pressure to both the hydro-boost and steering.

Brake pedal goes to floor.......pads, rotors and calibers are new, lines have been bled.

Sounds like it is not completely bled. I would bench bleed the master cylinder first and then bleed to whole system again. The calipers take quite a bit of fluid and it sounds like you may have ingested air during the bleeding process. Start from the left rear and then right rear, then right front and then left front. Make sure you keep the master cylinder full during bleeding because it can **** air if low and you will not notice. It takes a while to do it correctly unless you have a pressure bleeder.

If you have replaced all pads, and see no leaks at any wheel, and have bled your brake system, then most likely your brake master cylinder has failed.

How to replace brake pads on 2006 oddesey

Raise and secure on stands after breaking loose the lug nuts and parking brake on for front pads.. Remove wheels and spread old pads back to push cylinders back in their bores on calibers to allow for thickness of new pads. Remove the 2 sliding claiber retaining bolts and rotate caliber out of mount and secure with wire, boungie cord, or rope to take weight of caliber brake hose. Remove old pads, install new, and reassemble in reverse order. Lugs on alloy wheel should be torgued to 95 foot lbs. Block front wheels, release parking brake,and do the back ones the same way. After completing, pump brake pedal slowly several times to seat new pads. If you move the MPV without pumping first, you will have no brakes to stop. If brake fluid level is high in master cylinder, you will need to take some out first to make room for returning fluid from caliber pistons being returned to their bores prior to any brake work. Rotors should be replaced or turned if scored or warped to have better clapping of pads to rotor surface.

How do you take the front caliper off a 1990 toyota camry? i undid the 2 bolts on it, now do i just pull or what?

You can sometime just pull it off but sometimes you will need to take a screwdriver and push the brake pad back on the caliber piston side. This will force the piston back and allow you to remove the caliber. After you remove it you will need to compress the caliber piston fully back in order to allow room the install the new pads and get them back on the rotor. Sometimes you can fully compress it while the caliber is still installed. On some vehicles like Honda you need a special tool in order to compress the caliber. Most auto parts stores will lend you the tool if you buy the pads from them. Be sure and loosen the master cylinder fill cap to allow the brake fluid to expand in the master cylinder. Clean everything off with spray brake cleaner before installing the new pads and clean the new pads throughly. Be sure and install pads in pairs. Do both front wheels or both back wheels not just one.

Pistons in both front calipers stay out, both calipers replaced

You may have a leak in the booster or master cylinder. You can put a pressure tester on the system to test for leaks. It does sound like you have an air leak.
You can try to bleed the master cylinder, then slave cylinder, then brake lines.
