Re: Starts fine......runs for awhile then dies....gets...
Sounds like you need to gap your coil. The wrong gap size will do that, usually run bout an hour then quits when hot. Take cover off an you should be able to see if gap is to small, or to large. Get a new coil an re-gap to fly wheel.

check the point where the fuel hose goes to the fuel tank
there is very fine filter in the hose that could be blocked preventing full fuel flow

How to make Generac generator run bypassing the low oil sensor and ... Remove all; Disconnect .... My ...
There may be a plugged fuel filter in the fuel tank, or perhaps you have the oil mix to rich. other problems could be that it needs a new spark plug or carburetor adjusted. Try spraying the carb out with carb cleaner, add a little seafoam in with the gas.
it is a fuel related issue in that the carby is not getting enough fuel
check fuel tap is flowing fuel, needle and seat /float level is correct , filters in tank and at carby are not blocked
check main jet for blockage /water
this is all indicated by needing the choke on for it to run
i would try first change gas make sure its a mix of gas and 2 cycle engine oil, second new spark plug third make sure theres nothning in the gas line hope this helps
Recently purchased UST 5500 from Pep Boys. Had same problem during engine break in period. Found that the carb will not draw gas when generator is on level surface. Mine has the wheel kit and it causes the fuel inlet to be at highest point in tank. If you block up the wheels and change the angle of the tank it will improve fuel line pickup. Also check gap on plug, mine was way off from factory. Also check the routing of the spark plug wire and make sure it is not getting forced off the plug by tension from breather hose. Once the engine starts make sure to push choke back in, it will run for a good while choked but it will eventually shut off if you don't push choke back in. Hope this helps. Took me awhile to discover the fuel feed issue.
