Car died after driving thru half a metre deep water.

Got half way thru and the car just died, got it out of water tried turning it over just makes a clunk sound. Checked air filter it was soaking wet, water went into the air intake. Oil still looks fine in motor and distributor is dry. Cant get the spark plugs out to try cranking it, can we do this with them in? Does it sound like the motor is possibly stuffed? Happened yesterday, car has sat over night, haven't tried starting it as hubby has been told that it can do more damage to the car.

Hydrolock, take all spark plug off then crang the car till all water gone inside the cylinder chamber, then put all back together and hope nothing major damage.

Testimonial: "Is there any chance we can crank it without taking spark plugs out because we can't access 3 of them and don't have the spare $$ for a mechanic."

My 1991 aerostar van died while i was driving it and now it will not start

My 89 all wheel drive Aerostar will do that too if I forget to put that liquid stuff in that round thingy.

But seriously how was it acting before it stopped running ? Was it sputtering and hesitating ? Had you driven thru any deep water puddles that could have splashed water onto the engine ? You did not mention if the motor turns over when you try to start it , in other words is the battery charged? So if you are sure you have plenty of gas and the engine is nice and dry, the engine turns over when you turn the key - but doesn't start - I would check to see what could have come loose in the engine compartment such as a wire or an obstruction like a plastic bag over the air intake.

Good luck !

Drove car thru water. Car died instantaly. water was knee deep. Pushed car out of water. will not turn over now.???

when you say it won`t turn over do you mean it tries to turn over with the starter or it won`t start.if you mean it won`t turn over then when it dries out a bit(water has drained from electrical components)try it again.if it still wont then its possible it may have sucked up water into the cylinder.pull the plugs and try to turn the motor over.if it does then this is the problem.if you mean it won`t start then let it dry still for water in a component may cause electrical issues when wet.just suggestions.

My escort overheated so added water then i tried to start the car but it wont start, its cranks but it wont start

need add add antifreeze half antifreeze and water to raise coolant boiling point. replace thermostat and radiator pressure cap.wait until engine cool then try starting it up.depends on how long you drove car when engine over heated.if you turn off engine soon as it over heated no harm done.if you kept on driving and engine die of lack of cooling, and car wont crank you could have blown head gasket warped or cracked cylinder head.

My son drove his charger thru a deep puddle. the

Does the engine turn fully or not? If not the connecting rods are more than likely twisted to your pistons if he hit the deep puddle at a fast rate of speed. The pressure of the water would of passed through the engine's crack seal producing deadly effects to the engine

YOU COULD HAVE A DEFECTIVE WATER PUMP OR THERMOSTAT ALSO RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.MAKE SURE YOUR WATER PUMP IS BEING TURNED BY DRIVE BELT.NOT SLIPPING.MAKE SURE COOLANT SYSTEM HAS BEEN BLED AND YOU HAVE HALF ANTIFREEZE HALF WATER.CHECK YOUR CRANKCASE WHEN CAR COOLS DOWN.IF OIL STILL LOOK LIKE MILK SHAKE.YOUR NEW HEAD GASKETS LEAKING.THE MECHANIC WHO REPLACED HEAD GASKET DIDNT DECK THE HEADS.THEY PROBABLY NEED SHAVED A LITTLE SO HEAD GASKET WILL SEAL.
